Hi Everyone! I grew up in Brooklyn, New York. During my high school years and college years (72-80) I lived at home and attended the shul Ahavath Israel on East 29 and Avenue K in Brooklyn. The sermons that Rabbi Berzon z"l gave where very good. He would talk to you as opposed to above you. His love for Israel and the Jewish people was very evident in the words he spoke. [ha-Safran] Educational Resources about Tisha B'Av
Shalom. Tisha B'Av is the saddest day on the Jewish calendar because of the incredible series of tragedies which occurred on that date throughout Jewish History. Tisha B'Av means "the ninth of the Hebrew month of Av". Tisha B'Av primarily commemorates the destruction of the first and second Temples, both of which were destroyed on the ninth of Av - the first by the Babylonians in 586 B.C.E.; the second by the Romans in 70 C.E. Although this day is primarily meant to commemorate the destruction of the Temple, it is appropriate to consider on this day the many other tragedies of the Jewish people, many of which occurred on this day, most notably the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492. This year 5783 - 2023 we observe the fast day of Tisha B'Av starting from Wednesday after nightfall, July 26, until nightfall on Thursday, July 27. You can learn more about this Jewish fast day at: jr.co.il/hotsites/tisha-b-av.htm May we see the rebuilding of the Temple in our days and that Tisha B'Av becomes a day of celebration. [ha-Safran] 47th Anniversary of Mivtsa Yonatan, Flora Photos and Happy Birthday America
Hi Everyone! On June 27 1976, an Air France flight from Tel-Aviv to Paris via Athens was hijacked and forced to land in Entebbe, Uganda. The Jewish passengers were separated and held hostage in demand to release many terrorists held in Israeli prisons. After much debate, the Israeli government sent an elite commando unit to raid the airfield and release the hostages. The commando unit, aircraft crews and the rescued hostages landed in Israel on July 4, 1976. Yonatan Netanyahu, the commander of the first aircraft´s Sayeret Matkal rescue unit, was shot and killed while helping hostages return to the aircraft. "Operation Entebbe" was later named "Operation Yonatan" in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Netanyahu z"l. Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) announced on Sunday that it has begun a birdwatching project for the benefit of nature lovers and birdwatchers of all experience levels.The project uses a network of eight HD cameras and complex electric infrastructure including fiber optics and wireless communications systems at Lake Hula in northern Israel's Hula Valley. Shalom. Tisha B'Av is the saddest day on the Jewish calendar because of the incredible series of tragedies which occurred on that date throughout Jewish History. Tisha B'Av means "the ninth of the Hebrew month of Av". Tisha B'Av primarily commemorates the destruction of the first and second Temples, both of which were destroyed on the ninth of Av - the first by the Babylonians in 586 B.C.E.; the second by the Romans in 70 C.E. Although this day is primarily meant to commemorate the destruction of the Temple, it is appropriate to consider on this day the many other tragedies of the Jewish people, many of which occurred on this day, most notably the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492. This year 5782 - 2022 we observe the fast day of Tisha B'Av starting from Saturday after nightfall, August 6, until nightfall on Sunday August 7. You can learn more about this Jewish fast day at: jr.co.il/hotsites/tisha-b-av.htm May we see the rebuilding of the Temple in our days and that Tisha B'Av becomes a day of celebration.
