[ha-Safran] submission of Judaica Europeana news and resources

2014-06-10 Thread Lena Stanley-Clamp
I woud be grateful if you would post the following on the Ha-safran lists:

Judaica Europeana news and collection highlights from our international
network of Jewish heritage collections have just been published at
http://www.judaica-europeana.eu/Newsletter.html
http://www.judaica-europeana.eu/Newsletter.html?utm_source=emailcampaign47utm_medium=phpListutm_content=HTMLemailutm_campaign=Judaica+Newsletter+6%2C+2014

You will also find there an introduction to free tools for staging online
exhibitions and for research. PUNDIT is semantic annotation tool that
enables researchers to create annotations in Linked Open Data. *Ask* is a
web service that enables people to create and query notebooks based on
annotations made in Pundit.

[ha-Safran] Submission to haSafran.

2013-02-17 Thread Faye Gilbert
Dear haSafran Community:

With Passover quickly approaching, I am delighted to present the press release
of my latest children’s picture book- Mushy Red Stuff.  If you’d like further
information, please feel free to contact me by email at fdd...@yahoo.com,
Subject: Mushy Red Stuff.

Happy Reading,
Faye Alison Gilbert

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mushy Red Stuff

A read-aloud children’s picture book
Ages 4 and older
www.pagesofwonder.com/gilbert.html

New Release:
Eli doesn’t know it yet but this year the Passover Seder at Grandma and
Grandpa’s apartment is going to be anything but boring.  A bowl of Grandpa’s
homemade horseradish, made from a secret recipe, will turn the evening into
something extraordinary and Passover, for Eli, will never be the same again.

Synopsis:
It’s Passover.  Eli is sitting in his mom’s car on his way to Grandma and
Grandpa’s “boring old Seder.”  Listening to his little brother, Danny, practice
the four questions is torture, his mom is giving him her Proper Young Man
speech, and Dad is lecturing about ancient Egypt.  Finally, Eli and his family
arrive at Grandma and Grandpa’s apartment building.  With thick foreign
accents, Grandma and Grandpa greet Eli and his family.  After being seated at
the dining room table, Eli tells Grandpa he would prefer wine instead of purple
grape juice.  Grandpa tells Eli he will get wine when he has a bar mitzvah.
It’s finally sundown.  Grandpa begins the Seder.  Soon, Danny has to recite the
four questions but he can only remember a question and a half.  Reluctantly,
Eli finishes them.  When it’s time to eat, Grandma brings a bowl of Grandpa’s
powerful homemade horseradish to the table, made from his secret recipe.  Eli
names it
“mushy red stuff.”  As Grandma serves a platter of what Eli calls “football
fish,” he wonders why Dad gets up and opens all the windows and doors.  Grandpa
then takes a piece of fish and smothers it with mushy red stuff.  He takes one
bite and blasts out of his seat like a rocket, zooming in and out of doorways
and windows.  Eventually landing, Grandpa proclaims his horseradish recipe is
“still dee best.”  Later, as Eli’s family is saying goodbye, Eli admits to
Grandpa this was the best Seder ever.  Grandpa tells Eli he will teach him his
secret recipe next year.  They seal the deal by shaking hands.

About the Author:
Now in her 14th year at a Milwaukee, Wisconsin public elementary school, Faye
Alison Gilbert remains a literacy tutor and friend to a great bunch of
culturally diverse kids.  She writes stories and poems for young children and
relentlessly researches her ancestry.  This is Faye’s second book.  Her first
book, “A Wedding, Me, and the Family Tree,” was released in October 2011.

Editorial Reviews:
Cute picture book. . .many Jewish customs are portrayed. . .demonstrates how
young people interact with adults, especially grandparents. . .story easily
connects with children.  The grandfather is quite humorous.  Excellent
diversity.   -Heartland Reviews

Exciting Seder story for kids. . .humor and action. . .a keeper for young
readers.  . .cultural diversity is made so much easier when readers enjoy
identifying with a spunky character like Eli.  Even a surprising kiss from his
grandparent is a memorable experience.
