[ha-Safran] Seeking Follett, Alexandria, Innovative users

2016-08-30 Thread Heidi Rabinowitz
I'm in charge of Mentoring for AJL. When people ask me questions, sometimes I
need to direct them to somebody who knows more than I do. I'm looking for
people who know about the automation systems Follett, Alexandria, and
Innovative, and can answer questions about them. If you are familiar with one
of those systems and wouldn't mind having the occasional question directed
towards you, please get in touch with me!

Thanks!

Rivka Basman Ben-Haim, Israeli award winning Yiddish poet, is one of the last
representatives of the golden age of Yiddish poetry. As a young teenager, she
witnessed the Nazi destruction of her Jewish world. She began composing Yiddish
poems in the Vilna ghetto, and at 90 years, she is still writing poetry.
Translator Zelda Kahan Newman, former head of Judaic Studies at Lehman
College/CUNY, is a linguist whose specialty is Yiddish, language and culture.
For more than two decades, she has translated the Yiddish poetry of Rivka
Basman Ben-Haim.

[ha-Safran] Help Wanted: Publications

2016-08-30 Thread Heidi Rabinowitz
The AJL Council is seeking to fill the position of Publications Chair. The
Publications Chair oversees sales of existing AJL Publications and looks for
opportunities to create new publications. The Chair also works with related
committees as needed, such as Bibliography Bank, Conference Proceedings, News &
Reviews, and Judaica Librarianship.

The Publications Chair is a Council position with voting rights. The Chair
attends the Council meeting at the annual conference in June and the midwinter
meeting in January (this year being held in New York).

This is a great opportunity to get involved in AJL leadership, influence the
organization, and bolster the profession through timely publications. Past
Chair Joyce Levine will be happy to mentor the incoming Chair.

To learn more, please contact Member Relations Chair Heidi Rabinowitz at
he...@cbiboca.org or 561-241-8118 ext. 206.

[ha-Safran] Internship

2016-08-30 Thread Margo Gutstein
The Simon Wiesenthal Center is going to be offering an archival
internship with a stipend for a graduate student in a Library Science
program or a recent graduate. I am already endeavoring to contact
the local MLIS programs here in Los Angeles. We will, of course,
post the notice on Hasafran. Can anyone offer any other suggestions
how to get the word out about this?

Thank you,
Margo Gutstein
