Are these conventional paps you are talking about?? We used to put the paps in a 95% and little dab of carnoy's solution and dipped the slide until the blod would disapear then put it in 95% to stain, but we don't do this anymore because we are converted to thin prep. Hi histonetters what does everyone currently do with the vials the Pathologists empty when doing gross? Ours goes in biohazard bags, but someone mentioned to me they the labels should be taken off and then the vials put in the biohazard bag. If we did this we would just be taking off labels all day long. I have worked at 2 hospitals in my 35 years of experience and we have never done this. If we started this look at the clinical labs with blood specimens. Isn't there some sort of confidential agreement between the hospitals and hazard material companies? Histonetters: Our disposal company for formalin wants us to separate our stored tissues from the formalin and then pour the formalin into a drum. Does anyone have a procedure that doesn't expose your histotechs when pouring formalin off stored tissues, the company states there isn't a container that we can use to put the formalin and tissues in without being non-complient. [Histonet] Hazardous waste
Histonetters We are just now keeping a count of how many gallons we dispose of because the company that hauls it off gave us a 55 gal drum and charges us for 55 gal drum everytime he picks it up so we are going for a count for one month to see how much we dispose uf and maybe get a smaller drum so not to have to pay as much. [Histonet] Correct CPT?
Hey histoland When we do an FNA we sometimes have a cell block and we bill CPT 88160 and 88305 These are sometimes kicked back to us and we put a 59 modifier on the 88305 then it goes thru. Are we doing this correct ? Any advice?
