for those of you that use the ultraview alk phos red on their machines, do you run the slides through alcohols? we are having a lot of trouble with the staining, sometimes it is good others no staining at all on our mart 1s or pin4 prostate bxs. for those of you that use hollande sol for gI bx's do you wash the bxs before putting them in formalin? we started doing that thinking it would help. our pathologist are complaining the stain is not crisp on the gI's. we change and rotate our stainer often. do you run them on a short run? thank you all for posting about the cryostat decontamination, I have not revised my procedure and we are due for an inspection . I think this is just over kill, our pathologist says we have to do it if cap says. (they also made me throw away all of the dry drys that they said were outdated? now I think they have changed that, I thought that was crazy also.) the way we do it here is if the path thinks it should be down they will tell us. they try to just do smears if it is a know infectious case. we are coming up for our cap inspection and I need to write the procedure over for cleaning the cryostat once a week?? I think it is overkill to take it down every week but that is what it says. what is everyone else doing and what do you use to disinfect it? we now every week wipe it with 70% alc. but we do not take it all down. hello all, we were inspected the beginning of june by cap and one of our deficiency was anp.21382. it had to do with outdated reagents. my director want all of my dry chemicals gone I have gone through them and just have what I need for the special stains that we do in house. does anyone know do they put expiration dates on dry chems. we have things like light green, biebrich scarlet, periodic acid. I really hate to get rid of all of this but he thinks I should. what are others doing about this?
