The episode, titled "Not Without My Nanny," is scheduled to air 8 p.m. Eastern Time, Wednesday, January 28, on what may be the evening before Eid ul-Fitr prayers. (The title is a play on the name of the Muslim-bashing film "Not Without My Daughter.") CBS materials describing the episode say: "When Grace is invited by her friend, the son of a fabulously wealthy sultan, to visit the Middle East, Fran decides to travel with her. Fran and Grace are thrilled to be staying at the beautiful palace of the charming Sultan Hassan...until Fran realizes that the overly amorous prince is holding them both prisoner. After their plan to wriggle their way out of the predicament disguised as belly dancers fails, it's up to the heroic Maxwell to save them." "Stereotypical portrayals of Muslims and Arabs are always offensive and have a negative impact on ordinary American Muslims. This incident is made more offensive, coming as it does so near a major Muslim holiday," said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GOOD NEWS - ARREST MADE IN ANTI-MUSLIM ATTACK Alhamdulillah, An 18-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly committing a hate crime against a Muslim family in Maryland. The man was charged with hate-violence vandalism and malicious destruction of property. The charge of malicious destruction of property carries a maximum penalty of $2,500 in fines and three years in jail. A police spokesman told The Washington Post that state or federal prosecutors may handle the hate-violence vandalism charge. Last fall, the family's two cars had their tires punctured and seats slashed. A Nazi swastika and the word "pig" were also scratched on the hood of one car. Other acts of vandalism were reported in the recent past. The family is well known in the local community for their activism on behalf of Islamic causes. When the incident was first reported, CAIR sponsored a reward for any information leading to an arrest. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TEENS FACE FELONY CHARGES IN BEATING OF MUSLIM Felony charges have been filed against teenagers accused of beating a Muslim youth in Arkansas. The teenagers will go to trial in February on charges of felony assault and "terroristic threatening." CAIR had called on Muslims nationwide to contact Arkansas law enforcement officials and ask that they treat the attack as a felony and as a hate crime. The November incident in Fayetteville, Ark., allegedly began as a school bus dispute over spilled paint and escalated to a beating involving racial and ethnic slurs against the teenage Muslim victim. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
