In multiplayer_gamerules.cpp, InitHud() function, do pl-StartDeathCam(); and to show the MODT VGUI menu do one of these tutorials:

And then back in InitHud() do pl-ShowVGUIMenu( 2 ); Of course, you will have to modify the team select menu (number 2) to fit your mod, as its designed for TeamFortress 1.5.

Hey everyone, just wanted to ask a very newbie-ish type question because im
not sure how to properly setup observer mode in a mod.  Are there any good
docs or tutorials on how to do this properly with the new SDK?

I think he means the HLTV thing. Just a 
thought tho, umm I think this is a question for Valve. And posibly they 
could write a few more detailed documents on the TV and the events 
system.

I already installed this code, but the more 
important information I want to know is how to spawnthe player when they 
first join so they can see the MOTD and choose teams.

I found one on wavelength but I think its 
outdated.
