I am wondering why all these suggestions come forward two days before a
release?

Have any members of the list ever been involved in a development

Umm not to be stupid sounding, but you can not mix HL1 and HL2 servers,
so
does it matter if they call the directory the same thing?

I made this suggestion a few months ago too, but never heard anything
from Alfred about it. Yes, they run from different installations, but
for the sake of map searching and game querying, having some minor
distinction between the two is useful.

[hlds] New version of firedaemon out

2005-09-15 Thread Rick Payton
Also from reading their forums, it seems they had an alpha build of a
new project called PanelDaemon - a web interface to firedaemon, though
since hurricane katrina hit it's not available at the moment, since
their website was hosted out of new orleans.

One of the new features in v1.8 is capturing and closing all application
error popups for either a specific service, or all popups. Good for
people who haven't added the -nocrashdialog command line option yet.
Read about that here:

http://forums.firedaemon.com/viewtopic.php?t=37

Happy upgrading!

RE: [hlds] Lates Update 9-15-05 Broke Clients...

2005-09-15 Thread Alfred Reynolds

Speak of the devil, we have just released an update to fix this crash.

What you were seeing was clients connecting then crashing, but the game
server didn't know so it asked VAC2 if they were okay to play and VAC2
answered that the client wasn't around any more (they had crashed) and
then the game logged that fact. This particular case had nothing to do
with firewalls.

date, just checked HLDSUPDATETOOL... I tried to connect and noticed
Steam Client Updating CS1.6 then attempted to log in to our servers
and cannot nor can I connect to servers not hosted by us. Happening
to everyone so far as far as I can tell... Alfred, help us out

RE: [hlds] Lates Update 9-15-05 Broke Clients...

2005-09-15 Thread Paladin82
I replaced my motd.txt with a blank file, and it worked.

There is a bug with certain HTML MOTD's causing client crashes on
connect (in particular ones with iframes). We have a hotfix in the
works, ETA an hour or so. I suspect this is your problem.

This is happening to all users. I don't run a firewall on the server the
servers IP is 66.98.198.59:27015. On my PC that I am connecting from I
have
no firewall, just a Linksys router and never had any problems connecting
before. The Error I posted below is from the server console. I had no
problems before the update.

You get No Steam Logon when that client has failed to connect to VAC2
properly. Get them to check the various firewall settings described in
the help link when you get that error.

RE: [hlds] Lates Update 9-15-05 Broke Clients...

2005-09-15 Thread Alfred Reynolds
Note that this particular problem has nothing to do with servers (there
have been no server updates for the last couple of weeks). When there is
a server update this list (and the hlds_linux one) gets an email from us
with the details.

The clients are reporting that they can connect to other servers. My
guess
is that these are servers that have not been updated yet. When I try to
connect as a client I don't get any message, just disconnected.

Well good old sv_inforcenothing.

VALVe do everyone a favour and make consistency work for ALL skins as soon
as you can please.

Having skins like that [links supplied by Whisper] is just another form of
cheating don't you think?

the level of sv_consistency and can do so on a file by file basis?

Re: [hlds] Re: sv_consistency

2005-09-15 Thread Clayton Macleod
yes, I consider that cheating as well, but how do you propose to block
things like that without blocking any and all replacements? You have
to remember, one of the reasons there is such a big community for
Valve's games is the degree of customizability that exists. Somehow I
doubt they're going to all of a sudden stop one of the big attractions
to their product.
