Actually I think it was only announced on the hlds_announce list (you really should be on this one, as it notifies of all updates regardless.) The german Version of the box didnot even show the whole content cause it didnt fit in there. - Original Message - From: George Devgru Seal [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Half-Life dedicated Win32 server mailing list hlds@list.valvesoftware.com Sent: Wednesday, April 02, 2008 8:25 AM Subject: Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server update released I tend to agree. The only reason I was even aware of the box was through this mailing list, and I read the update news. But I can tell you that most gamers are just going to click past that tiny box without caring what was in the box. They figure, if its important I'll get the message again, but I want to play a game right now! ...And don't take that as an invitation to make that dialog box show up everytime you open the browser either, in hopes someone will see it. Another effect of this tabs, which it looks like you haven't taken in account, is that all 'noob' players are on the internet tab. As with result you have mostly only servers now on that tab were idiots play who keep spamming and screaming shit, abusing bugs etc etc. And the default servers are mostly not really closely monitored by admins, so the abuse keeps going on 24/7. The most extreme case would be DICE and the ranked servers for BF2 and 2142. More and more the options we as admins have to host a game the way we want to play it are being taken away. In my opinion, this has stemmed from the consoles where developers and publishers have complete control over the gaming experience. That model will never work in the PC gaming world. I am really frustrated with how out of touch the devs and publishers have become. That part really confuses me because I run steam from windows, I decide what game to play from my steam client before I go into the game, even what server. So,Irarely ever use the steam search while I'm in the game. So, why is it that Valve decided to put the tab there and not in the steam client I usebefore I start the game??? Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server update released
I read it.. I understand it... there :p There does come a time where many find themselves craving a vanilla server, just to play it as it was intended by the developers. For other mods this would not make sense, but tf2 has so many servers that its needed. Same goes for cs:s. Its like google search results, if your not on the first two pages you don't get seen, at least here in tf2 there are now greater chances of your server getting seen by the people who are looking for it. If not the tabs, then a filter macro. Its all about allowing me, the player, to find what I'm looking for faster. blablabla... - Original Message From: Saint K. Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server update released
Tags implemented as they are now, will not help you find vanilla servers. If a new plug-in is made for TF2, the tags will not be modified automatically, and they will not be modified voluntarily either if server ops are put into another list for it which causes them to lose their server traffic. Every single server in the internet list could be custom, instagib deathmatch, without the server admins using plug-ins to hide tags. - voogru. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Robert Whelan Sent: Thursday, April 03, 2008 10:17 PM To: Half-Life dedicated Win32 server mailing list Subject: Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server update released I read it..
