[hlds] L4D Force Dedicated Server
Sorry if this has been covered before. So it's been some time and I'm now playing L4D again however I see I can no longer do ms_force_dedicated_server anymore. How do I go about creating a game through the lobby and having it connect to one of my servers? I just installed the New Mani Admin Plugins 1.2r. After do this I no longer can bring up my admin menu in the game nor am I able to use commands such as timeleft or rank and so on. Anyone else having this issue after installing the latest mani admin? If any one can give me some pointers on how to fix this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Re: [hlds] RE: [hlds][OT]
I am on the linux list, and I run my server on RH7.1 (2.4 kernel) and I have had maybe 2 crashes since 1.3, and probably a dozen since 1.1. Most of these were freak things, admin mod etc. So yeah, the linux version is more stable, but I don't know if that is a result of the program, or the OS. Regardless of this OS war, would anyone seriously like to get a newbie linux (maybe focusing on HLDS/simple servers such as apache/mysql/php stuff) list going? -Chuck Hays On Tue, 2001-10-16 at 16:32, HL Server wrote: At 02:06 PM 10/16/2001 -0700, you wrote: Well, I don't know about other peoples, but even through the last 2 updates, my hlds linux server hasn't dumped once. I know you say you don't know about other peoples, but is there anyone on both lists that could confirm or deny this? I would simply like my server to stay up like it used to ... I've done everything suggested and it still crashes constantly ... I've seen no optimistic news ... and I'm seeing many complains outside of this list ... (I shouldn't have to mention my regulars who bring it to my attention all the time ..) ... But I once again, I believe this was a topic on the AdminMod forums ... If an IIS admin takes the time to read and apply the maintenance, there should never be a problem ... This is another reason for trying Linux, I thought the HLDS on Linux was stable, but now I've read elsewhere (I think AdminMod Forums) that it is in fact just as shoddy as the Windows version ... RE: [OT] Qwest + 678
Why is this so definately malarky? You don't think its possible that through a higher level of error checking you could introduce several (15-20) milliseconds of additional latency? I don't think its utterly ridiculous as a possibility. However, I am completely open to other possiblities. I just have heard the same story from 2 separate ISPs. Any other ideas out there? -Chuck On Sun, 2001-10-07 at 01:11, Stan Hoeppner wrote: After speaking with local ISPs (Minneapolis) about Qwest and their network setup, they informed me that the 30-50ms added from the dsl modem to the equipment on the other side is due to Qwest setting the error correction Settings to highest. RE: [OT] Qwest + 678
So with the DMT stardard, the modem and the hardware on the other end do NO error correction themselves? I find that hard to believe. I am not trying to make enemies here, but what you are saying is illogical. The reason we HAVE a DSL modem is that we can't send tcp/ip directly over a phone line. Its encoded into some other format (which I don't claim to know the details of - DMT/CAP/etc..), and there has to be some kind of error checking. It would be unreasonable to think otherwise. -Chuck Hays On Sun, 2001-10-07 at 14:24, Stan Hoeppner wrote: Why is this so definately malarky?
