In vol 12 of this mailing forum was it mostly about hacking and cheating but
what I don't get is why you want to cheat?
I mean I know you want to win but cheating and hacking isn't good for your

Not even proxies are necessary. Just seems to be a case of the
America-wide-web. Dynamic IPs are thrown at your door every time you reset
the router here, and it's probably the same in most of Europe.

Re: [hlds] Why cheating isn't helping...

2012-04-08 Thread ics
It's not same all around the europe regarding IP's. Here i've seen my
own ip change perhaps 1-2 in a year or even less. Of course it depends a
lot from the isp but the ip-ranges can be starting from 81.* or 78.* or
87.* 62.* so it's propably the same for anyone else using the same ISP.
Then there are those which have IP change every time they reset their
dsl box.

If someone managed to do 20 accounts and cause havoc on IFA Gaming
servers, then obviously the counter measures that Valve said they had
when TF2 went Free to Play are ineffective. Could happen to anyone of
us. Luckily these idiots who use their Free to play accounts are
somewhat stupid and not every case becomes as such.

A phone verification system is probably not a bad idea but I think we have
gone over this discussion about a month or so ago.

- KAC like Global Sourceban database can be somewhat effective against
hackers/cheaters until valve decides to do something about the problem.
- There is no Report violation feature available if the user doesn't have

You are wrong about users who don't have profile set not having those

A phone verification system is probably not a bad idea but I think we have
gone over this discussion about a month or so ago.

- KAC like Global Sourceban database can be somewhat effective against
hackers/cheaters until valve decides to do something about the problem.
- There is no Report violation feature available if the user doesn't
have
his/her profile setup.

It's not same all around the europe regarding IP's. Here i've seen my own
ip
change perhaps 1-2 in a year or even less. Of course it depends a lot from
the isp but the ip-ranges can be starting from 81.* or 78.* or
87.* 62.* so it's propably the same for anyone else using the same ISP.
Then there are those which have IP change every time they reset their dsl
box.

If someone managed to do 20 accounts and cause havoc on IFA Gaming
servers,
then obviously the counter measures that Valve said they had when TF2 went
Free to Play are ineffective. Could happen to anyone of us. Luckily these
idiots who use their Free to play accounts are somewhat stupid and not
every
case becomes as such.

Not even proxies are necessary. Just seems to be a case of the
America-wide-web. Dynamic IPs are thrown at your door every time you
reset the router here, and it's probably the same in most of Europe.

I agree there with daz. Ppl behind proxies usually have completely
diff ip everytime they connect.

Depends where you are. IP ranges won't help in the slightest in the
UK. Your IP can be completely different just by resetting the router.

That's why you ban IP ranges.

IP bans work in most cases but anyone with half brain can get
around that.
Had a case yesterday where person created 10+ f2p accts in 2hrs
and everytime he connected from a diff IP.

The trolling kind is usually the easiest one to spot at least,

Some people cheat on servers just to troll the staff. They can

I mean I know you want to win but cheating and hacking isn't
