Although I beat, and then raised, my individual goal for the annual HOT microgrant fundraising campaign; it really isn't about hitting the dollar amount today. On the last day of the year, if we can get 4 more people to donate anything (>=$1) we will get a $5000 match from DigitalGlobe. Where this money goes is important to me, and everyone involved in the OpenStreetMap project. This is how we help 'seed' communities in some of the most rural places on earth (such as Mongolia, which I have a special affinity for). Even if we don't hit our goal to fund 10 microgrants; about every $4000 we can support 1 community. If we can get this match from DG, we will be well over half our goal and are looking at a handful of microgrants (which will be easier to manage) but it would be a nice surprise to see a big push at the end to get as many projects as possible funded.
