Re: [HOT] HOT Tech announcement | November 4th

2020-11-04 Thread Arnalie Faye Vicario via HOT
So happy for the new development of the Tech Team!
Welcome to Hycinth, Lily and Diana! :)
Would the Tech WG 2.0 be open to have a schedule that will also work from the
different side of the globe, ie  Asia and the Pacific (in most Southeast Asia
countries, the current timeslot is 12AM onwards)? Just opening up this
conversation in case anyone would like to join the group that is based in these
regions. :)

regards,Arnalie

Hello Humanitarian OpenStreetMappers,

Get updated with the latest news from the HOT Tech Team.

Tasking Manager 4.2.0 released

We released a new version of Tasking Manager. The main highlight is the
enhancement on how the integrated iD is initialized, in order to make it more
reliable and avoid data errors. The iD editor version is now upgraded to
2.19.4. We have also made some improvements to the project management section.
Check out the complete release notes.

Hycinth, Lily and Diana join the Tech Team

We have three new members on our team:

   -
Hycinth Umaran is joining us as Scrum Master and Agile Coach and is based in
Manilla, Philippines;

   -
Lily Cheng is our new Senior Designer and is based in Los Angeles, USA;

   -
Finally, Diana Nanyanzi is our new Junior Developer, and she is based in
Kampala, Uganda.

They will help us to improve not only our technical solutions, but our way of
working with more creativity, diversity and agility. You can say hello to them
on Slack!

Tech Working Group is reactivated

Yesterday we had our first meeting of the Tech Working Group 2.0. We are
prototyping a new format for the gatherings, including a retrospective of the
past month, input on the HOT_tech backlog prioritisation and a forum to share
and discuss interesting tech topics. You can check the meeting notes and attend
the next one on December 1st, 16:00 UTC.

[HOT] Update! Recent Disaster Activty

2020-11-04 Thread Russell Deffner
 Dear HOT Community,

The last few weeks have been especially challenging, given the number of
disasters occurring around the world. This is a quick update on the six
incidents we have been experiencing. But first, let me ask everyone reading
this message to do one, or more, of the following to help:

   - Visit https://tasks.hotosm.org, find a suitable project, preferably a
project with Urgent priority (use the filters if needed), and map at least
one task. If half of the readers in our mailing list do this, that could
finish the largest of the projects (or several of the smaller ones).
   - If you are an experienced OpenStreetMap contributor, please visit
https://bit.ly/HOTValidators and sign up to become a Validator to help
us ensure high-quality data is delivered to responders and aid agencies
   - Spread the word, such as on Social Media or directly to friends and
family. Tell them about OpenStreetMap, the Tasking Manager, the MapSwipe
app, and all of your favorite ways and reasons you participate. You can
also take it one step further and host a mapathon! Mapathons are especially
encouraged during GeoWeek, November 15-21; register your event here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd0o_FrsoGlpqKlG9q1WumFV8sW8P9yhH4Udln_1fQbYjXn9A/viewform
   - Last, if you’re over-the-top dedicated like we are and want to be a
part of the Disaster Services Team (DST), you can start by attending
meetings of the Activation Working Group. Ask how in our #disaster-mapping
   Slack channel here: https://slack.hotosm.org

Now for the run-down of the Disaster Incidents we are leading, managing,
supporting, and/or monitoring. For more details on each situation, see our
blog: https://www.hotosm.org/updates/fall-2020-disaster-responses/

   - *Hurricane Zeta*: coordination calls for Zeta in the USA ended on
   Friday
   - *Typhoon Molave*: the local community in the Philippines were already
engaged when Molave landed. Extended effects in Vietnam, including
landslides. HOT activated by request of local mappers. Projects:
   https://tasks.hotosm.org/explore?text=Molave
   - *Aegean Sea Earthquake* (Turkey): 7.0 magnitude earthquake &
following tsunami. Yer Çizenler leading the activation, HOT supporting.
   Projects: https://tasks.hotosm.org/explore?text=Izmir
   - *Super Typhoon Rolly* (Goni) affected the Philippines, the local team
is already engaged, the storm is now heading towards Vietnam. Projects:
   https://tasks.hotosm.org/explore?text=RollyPH
   - *Hurricane Eta* - Made landfall November 3 as a category 4 hurricane.
HOT currently estimating needs while establishing contact with local
   community
   - *COVID-19*: 225 days since we activated, 323 projects managed by HOT,
with about 100 others managed by the community. Projects:
