Re: [HOT] #Map4Ebola DRC OpenStreetMap Response to 2017 Ebola outbreak : 23-May 2017 priority mapping work

2017-05-24 Thread Claire Halleux
Hi Bjoern,

The residential areas were extracted from the OSM database using overpass
download. A 25 meters buffer was applied to the polygons before importing
them into the tasking manager. In the present case, it was done as a zipped
shapefile (although I usually rather use geojson).
In the tasking manager, there are currently 2 options when creating a new
project: either use the imported geometries as tasks (like in this case) or
use a square grid on the geometry provided (regular projects).

There are currently some other projects using imported geometry as tasks,
e.g. road network in Kasaï, DRC (#2881).

Ah - always read the instructions. It was a previous project. How do you
get the individual areas into the task manager though - just have a kml
with multiple polygons?

Hi all,

Can I just ask how the residential areas were generated in the first place?
Was that a manual process?

Then, how do you get them as tasks into the task manager? (Rather than
square tiles)

I quite like the artistic effects, but they do make it hard to see the actual

Re: [HOT] #Map4Ebola DRC OpenStreetMap Response to 2017 Ebola outbreak : 23-May 2017 priority mapping work

2017-05-23 Thread Claire Halleux
Awesome! #3060 is close to be completely validated and #3059 is 77%
completed already, thank you!

Sorry for the really tiny bits making the process repetitive, specially for
people covering amazing number of tiles!

We actually had some discussions on the best way to delimit this type of
tasks before publishing these 2 last ones. We had concluded that it would
be more intuitive to just have those individual (buffered) residential
landuse areas, even if sometimes small, than bigger areas where
contributors would need to span and look again for built-up areas.

If you'd have suggestions to improve this (should we have created some kind
of regular squared pattern?), we could integrate this to the workflow of
the next task. That one will focus on mapping all buildings of residential
areas identified in task #3046. However, we'll need validation to be
achieved on this initial mapping first, before reviewing the area in a more
detailed way.

Thanks for the piece of art ;)
In JOSM it is easy to hide those marqueurs' labels. Not too sure about iD
though. Would be good to have an option to hide them by default after the
first few editing sessions;.

Cheers

Re: [HOT] #Map4Ebola DRC OpenStreetMap Response to 2017 Ebola outbreak : 23-May 2017 priority mapping work

2017-05-23 Thread Kretzer
This task is nearly finished in the meantime ...

"Buildings only" is an ice and quick job. But I wonder if it is neccessary to
make such tiny tiles. Sometimes each house gets its own tile like her in the
eastern part: http://tasks.hotosm.org/project/3059#task/230
This makes it a bit boring to open every tile in JOSM. In ID the ronud boundary
boxes produce unintentional artwork For example:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3mtd39z1ons1zoe/drc11.png?dl=0
:-)
