Re: [HOT] Ebola: Excellent progress mapping, validators needed. UPDATE

2018-05-28 Thread Blake Girardot HOT/OSM
Dear Friends,

The Ebola projects are still going along really well, Claire is making
them small and strategic so they go fast and are very easy to change
priority based on her daily discussions with Ministry of Health
officials.

Mappers and validators are doing an amazing job. Validation still
needs more experienced validators, so if you have not had a chance to
do any validation yet, now is a great time.

Much of the mapping so far has been residential area outlines and
roads, critical data for trying to contain this outbreak.

Claire and the folks at OSM RDC are now also using that dataset for
targeted building mapping based on daily developments. The building
footprints are the next critical dataset for all the efforts you have
read about, contact tracing, ring vaccinations, etc.

Claire and the OSM RDC team are doing really impressive project
management over a large area, balancing fast, accurate, aggregate data
like roads, waterways, residential areas, and then using that to
follow up building level mapping the areas that need the detail.

You can see overall strategy here:

If you have been a part of the mapping so far, thank you very much for
working remotely along side Claire, the OSM RDC community, the RDC
Ministry of Health and rest of the world wide OSM community to stop
this disaster from spreading further.

If you have not had a chance to be a part of the effort yet, we need
you. The more folks who can spend a little time mapping, the greater
chance we have to contribute to stopping this outbreak before it gets
worse.

5 minutes is all it takes to be a part of any humanitarian mapping project.

There is currently a huge effort on the ground to contain this
outbreak. We are in a position where responding organizations need to
do everything they possibly can to stop this, but we will not know
how well that is working for another week or two. Please keep these
Ebola projects in mind if you have some spare time this week.

Respectfully,
blake

[HOT] Ebola: Excellent progress mapping, validators needed.

2018-05-23 Thread Blake Girardot HOT/OSM
Dear Friends,

As you may know, there is an early stage, ongoing outbreak of Ebola in
Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Claire Halleux is leading HOT and OSM mapping from on the ground in
collaboration with the national Ministry of Health and others.

The projects are getting mapped quite quickly and by a variety of
folks of all skill levels, which is great!

As always validation is taking a bit more time, but still going well.

However, this is quite time critical data, so the sooner we can get it
validated the more help that data can be.

If you have done validation in the past, especially experienced
validators, if you could please find some time to check the ebola
projects for the next days and help them get to 100% / 100% in
whatever way you can, validating or mapping it would really help
things in the region.

https://tasks.hotosm.org/contribute?difficulty=ALL=Ebola2018

Many of these projects are tightly targeted, so go quickly, if you
check the list and there are none to validate, please check back,
there will be more projects for this outbreak.

Respectfully,
blake
