Re: [HOT] Mapping request from MSF

2016-08-03 Thread Pete Masters
Hi all,

I received this message via sms this morning from a logistician working on
the yellow fever intervention in Kinshasa...

"I am Etienne, French logistics team leader. We are visiting for the first
time today the zone of Kingasani. We already know it is the most dense zone
we will work in. We are facing access and transportation issues because of
the small roads. Maps are a critical key for success in this urban yellow
fever vaccination. Thanks so much for your help and support."

Just wanted to share it with you.

If you have time, there are more projects on the tasking manager that need
urgent work... http://tasks.hotosm.org/

Thanks a million!

Pete

2016-08-01 Thread Pete Masters
Hi all, amazing work on the first Kinshasa task for the yellow fever
outbreak in DRC. 100% mapped and ~80% validated in a matter of days.
Initial response from the MSF GIS officer in Kinshasa was:

*1/ THANK YOU ! I know a couple of logisticians who would kiss you all
right now*

The second task is up on the TM [1 <http://tasks.hotosm.org/project/2043>].
I have added the line *The priority area is the north of this zone, so
please choose squares in the north, first! *in the instructions. If someone
could do the French again, that would be marvelous...

Thanks again for all your contributions...

@Laura, happy to ask for imagery specific noted if validators think it
would help. Personally, I have been using both to cross reference and from
what I have seen, mappers are doing the same...

Cheers,

pete

Re: [HOT] Mapping request from MSF

2016-07-29 Thread Laura O'Grady
Should this change also be noted in the changelog when uploading in JOSM (when
this application is used for mapping)? And also in the comments section in the
Tasking Manager when submitting as “done”?

My concern is a validator may not know which imagery the mapper used.

This is the first of (probably) a few areas needing mapping. More
details in the tasking manager project description. Vaccination set to
start early - mid August. Team has asked if we can have the mapping done
by the 8th August.

If you have any questions, please let me know. If you have some time,

 Hi all,

Quick request... MSF urgently needs data for teams in Kinshasa battling
 the yellow fever outbreak.

http://tasks.hotosm.org/project/2041 (just buildings on this one)

This is the first of (probably) a few areas needing mapping. More
details in the tasking manager project description. Vaccination set to
start early - mid August. Team has asked if we can have the mapping done
 by the 8th August.

If you have any questions, please let me know. If you have some time,
your contribution would be much appreciated, either mapping or
 validating

 Cheers,

 Pete

Good advice, Rafael. I have updated the instructions tab. If anyone can
make the changes in French it would help (or just send me the text and I'll
edit the project).

Thanks for your contributions so far!

Re: [HOT] Mapping request from MSF

2016-07-27 Thread Rafael Avila Coya

Hi, Pete:

I've done 2 tasks [1], and I've seen that Mapbox, apart from being well
aligned with Bing, clarifies lots of buildings that are difficult or
very difficult to spot with dark Bing imagery. So I think adding Mapbox
would be a good idea.

I would also ask mapper to align some of the highways, as otherwise they
intersect with buildings.

Cheers,

Rafael.
