[IAEP] Try This! RE: Youtube Downloads on XO??? How to???
Hi Nick and Sean, Wow! Very nice! I will have to try this. It will be very useful for playing many great educational YouTube videos on the XO. Thanks Nick for doing it and Sean for sending it on. I hope everyone see this and tries it. Caryl From: sdaly...@gmail.com Date: Thu, 30 Dec 2010 15:42:00 +0100 Subject: Re: [IAEP] Youtube Downloads on XO??? How to??? Has anyone done anything like this? Does anyone have any ideas about how to do this? Could the videos be stored on USBs? on SD cards? on the XO itself? Do you load Flash on the XO? Is there a special version? Are there any add-ons they will need? Does anyone have any ideas of a better way to do it. They do not plan to have internet access for the XOs. Re: [IAEP] Still Trying... How do I switch the keyboard to another character set?
On Tue, Dec 28, 2010 at 02:23, Caryl Bigenho cbige...@hotmail.com wrote: Hi Folks... Still trying! As noted below, I followed Tim's instructions and downloaded the Urdu character set. However, I was not able to access it from Write. Do you mean that it did not show up in the font menu, or that you could not type it? Can you paste Urdu text in from another source? I spent some time working on this with a person who speaks and reads several middle eastern languages. Any ideas? What should I try next? Has anyone changed to another character set on their own rather than getting it that way from the factory? Yes, several of us have done it. Please note the Urdu version of my name in my sig block. I will add a chapter on character set, language, and font settings to the book I am writing, under the heading The Undiscoverable. http://booki.flossmanuals.net/discovering-discovery/edit/ Please send any other unanswered questions. Thanks Tim. The download seems to have gone smoothly. It reported that paktype/teheer is now available. However, when I went to the Write Activity, it did not appear among the available choices. Will it have a different name? There are several fonts labeled with letter codes such as kacstPen, cmsy10, wasy10, etc. Caryl Date: Mon, 27 Dec 2010 08:45:00 +1300 From: mcnamara@gmail.com To: support-g...@lists.laptop.org Subject: Re: [support-gang] [IAEP] How do I switch the keyboard to another character set? So, where do I find instructions for doing this and the file I would need to download to the XO? Why isn't it already there or on the wiki. People are using Urdu keyboards, right? Caryl Hi Caryl, This was hinted at during the original answer. Connect the XO to the Internet, open the Terminal Activity and run yum install ttf-paktype/tehreer This asks Fedora to install the typeface for you. Do let me know how you get on. Hi Caryl, As discussed before, distributing YouTube videos is illegal because it breaches YouTube's terms. However, the videos are actually released under the CC-BY-NC license from the Internet Archive (http://www.archive.org/). This means that you're free to use those videos, just not the ones from YouTube itself. They're slightly harder to search for, but the formats will play on the XO just fine. Select .ogv files. Re: [IAEP] Youtube Downloads on XO??? How to???
Found them! You're right, Tim, they are harder to find but not having to convert them is a real plus! Still, the Media Guide Nick Diorian recently updated is pretty useful too. Thanks for finding this for us. The folks doing the project will be very pleased. Caryl Date: Fri, 31 Dec 2010 17:11:18 +1300 Subject: Re: [IAEP] Youtube Downloads on XO??? How to???
