[IAEP] Radijojo - XO radio play

2010-12-30 Thread tom.staub...@fhtw-berlin.de
Radijojo - XO radio play

It took a couple of months of preproduction: writing the play, establishing
contacts, evaluating the software, etc.,
one week of production: rehearsing and recording, producing sound effects,
drawing images, contacting children in other countries,
two weeks of postproduction: mixing, publishing, etc.

Now it's available online:
http://www.radijojo.de/WCN_neu/english/page/unten.php?pl=Weltprojektekontinent=Weltprojektepunkt=weltprojekteaudio=radijojoonelaptopperchildaudioname=Radijojo%20+%20One%20Laptop%20per%20Child

This radio play is designed to be the pilot for a series of radio plays that
are dealing with the topics of the UN Convention on the Rights of Children and
the Millennium Goals.
A guide on how to produce further episodes for the series will be published
soon [2].
We hope to be able to publish your episode on our award winning radio network
[1] soon.

In the meantime we would be happy to receive contributions for the pilot's
middle section from you.

Send us recordings, animations, or images to be added to the pilot.
Report about the situation in your country.
Is child labor a problem? Has it been a problem? Since when?
When has it been abolished?
Did somebody fight against it? What were his/her achievements.
Can you tell us a story concerning the topics “Right to Education” and/or
“Protection from Exploitation”.
Shout out loud your claim for education.
Send us your recordings in your language.
We would also appreciate pictures that visualize certain aspects of the radio
play. Create them on your XO.
Do you have questions for the children in Germany?

Your contributions are welcome in whichever language you like.

Please send your contributions to:

Re: [IAEP] Still Trying... How do I switch the keyboard to another character set?

 Hi Folks...
Still trying!  As noted below, I followed Tim's instructions and downloaded
the Urdu character set.  However, I was not able to access it from Write.

Do you mean that it did not show up in the font menu, or that you
could not type it?

Can you paste Urdu text in from another source?

 I
spent some time working on this with a person who speaks and reads several
middle eastern languages. Any ideas?  What should I try next?  Has anyone
changed to another character set on their own rather than getting it that
 way from the factory?

Yes, several of us have done it. Please note the Urdu version of my
name in my sig block.

I will add a chapter on character set, language, and font settings to
the book I am writing, under the heading The Undiscoverable.

Please send any other unanswered questions.

Thanks Tim.  The download seems to have gone smoothly. It reported that
paktype/teheer is now available.  However, when I went to the Write
Activity, it did not appear among the available choices. Will it have a
different name?  There are several fonts labeled with letter codes such as
 kacstPen, cmsy10, wasy10, etc.

 Hi...

Ed Cherlin suggests installing an Urdu font (on the XO, I assume).  So,
where do I find instructions for doing this and the file I would need to
download to the XO?  Why isn't it already there or on the wiki.  People are
 using Urdu keyboards, right?

 Caryl

 Hi Caryl,
This was hinted at during the original answer. Connect the XO to the
Internet, open the Terminal Activity and run
 yum install ttf-paktype/tehreer
This asks Fedora to install the typeface for you. Do let me know how you get
 on.

Hi Caryl,

As discussed before, distributing YouTube videos is illegal because it
breaches YouTube's terms. However, the videos are actually released under
the CC-BY-NC license from the Internet Archive (http://www.archive.org/).
This means that you're free to use those videos, just not the ones from
YouTube itself.

They're slightly harder to search for, but the formats will play on the XO
just fine. Select .ogv files.

Found them! You're right, Tim, they are harder to find but not having to
convert them is a real plus! Still, the Media Guide Nick Diorian recently
updated is pretty useful too.

Thanks for finding this for us. The folks doing the project will be very
pleased.
