[IAEP] Update: Wish this little PC was an XO! :-(
Many thanks to all of you who tried to help me get my eeePC back on the internet (Skype works fine). I tried all of your suggestions and none fixed the problem. Yesterday I called asus and was very surprised to find they would provide telephone support, even though the netbook warrantee was up about 9 months ago. In fact they said they are there to help as long as I have the machine! (Are you listening Apple? This is what you used to do). Anyway, they said that I need to reset to factory settings (the netbook would only let me reset to December 14, 2010... not far enough!). I need a Support DVD (which came with the machine) and a usb optical drive so I can use it as a boot disk. So I guess I will make a trip to Frys sometime soon and see what I can find. Maybe even this afternoon. I was thinking of getting one with light-scripe anyway. Any recommendations? The asus guy recommended Lite-on. Thanks again for all of your efforts to help. I'll let you know if and when the problem is solved. Caryl P.S. In essence, I will be doing what we do with the XOs... reflashing! ___ IAEP -- It's An Education Project (not a laptop project!) [IAEP] OER for a billion children
I have started to write about the economics of OER development in the UNESCO WSIS forum. http://www.wsis-community.org/pg/groups/14358/open-educational-resources-oer/ "We look forward to our 1,000th member (hopefully late March) and 5,000 members by the end of the year. We’re also setting our sights on a provocative suggestion by Edward Mokurai Cherlin – can we educate a billion children using OERs!!" I explained briefly on the Welcome page. http://www.wsis-community.org/mod/groups/topicposts.php?topic=59114&group_guid=14358 "My interest is in the complete ecology for education for a billion children, as in the One Laptop Per Child program using XO laptops and Sugar software. Now that laptops + OER are less expensive than printed textbooks, this must become SOP in every education system, K-postgraduate..." The discussion is at http://www.wsis-community.org/mod/groups/topicposts.php?topic=118512&group_guid=14358 Community discussion > OER Economics for a billion children Let me know if you would like an invitation from UNESCO to join their OER community, or send your request directly to wsiscommunity-invitat...@unesco.org. -- Edward Mokurai (默雷/धर्ममेघशब्दगर्ज/دھرممیگھشبدگر ج) Cherlin Silent Thunder is my name, and Children are my nation.
