Re: [IAEP] Sugar Digest 2011-12-07

Having just finished porting a Flash game to Sugar--it really is not
so difficult--I suggested that we encourage the deployment to
 Sugarize their Flash assets.

What do you mean with Sugarizing? Re-writing them in other language?

As has already been discussed, putting a Sugar wrapper around Flash is
trivial (Tomeu did the heavy lifting 2-years ago). But in this case,
yes. I wrote an equivalent activity in Python. Since most Flash
games I have seen are quite simple, this pretty easy to do. It has
the additional advantages of: access to the Sugar Journal;
collaboration; view source and end user (or deployment-level)
customization/modification.

That time works for me. See you there. Do we keep a working agenda
draft on the wiki?

[IAEP] Flash - Sugar - HTML5 and Circle-The-Cat

2011-12-08 Thread Carlos Rabassa

Circle The Cat [Encerrando al Gato]
http://www.members.shaw.ca/gf3/circle-the-cat.html

Adobe introdujo Adobe Air.

(SWF) a HTML5.

http://www.rtve.es/noticias/2010/adobe-flash-se-rinde-ante-html5-abandona-dispositivos-moviles/474520.shtml

no-desarrollador.

English text

Trying to learn from the experts, I get more and more confused.

A few days ago I just mentioned a very simple game:

Circle The Cat
http://www.members.shaw.ca/gf3/circle-the-cat.html

I brought up this cat game as an example of an application that may be used by
users with any computer, with any operating system, without having to do any
downloading or installation. You clic on the link and may start playing.

First reaction, someone was challenging me to discuss the educational value of
this game. I had never said a word about the educational value. All I said
was, it shows a convenient way for users to get applications.

Then someone said this type of applications require Flash.

Today the talk in the lists is moving to sugarizing Flash applications.

I just had a chance to talk to a developer not familiar with what transpired in
these mail lists.

I asked, how would you write an application to allow any user to use it by
clicking on a link? And I gave him a link to the example of the cat.

HTML5 was the answer.

Then I asked, what about Flash?

The answer was that it can be used but is not what he would recommend to use
today because Flash, after having been great, is now on the way out.

Flash is owned by Adobe and there are rumors they will not support it any
longer. Adobe came up with Adobe Air. Most new applications are required to
work with smart phones and tablets; this is the big force pushing Flash out
and HTML5 in.

He said free when referring to HTML5. I don´t know if he meant it qualifies
as free software.

To finish our conversation, this programmer suggested I google the words
Flash HTML5 to get a more complete and up to date explanation of this move
from Flash to HTML5. I did.

In one site I read ... allowing developers to convert Flash (SWF) files to
HTML5. That means you can reuse Flash content on devices without a Flash Player
...

In another site I read ... Therefore, you can put the converted HTML5
animation on your website, and let visitors enjoy it normally on PC,
