initiator

2010-11-03 Thread Carroll, William
Good morning all. I have a problem I would like to put out here and see if
anybody else has seen it. The last couple of days I am having a batch job
issue the message 'ief099i' waiting for datasets. The wait is being caused by
an initiator that has not freed a dataset. In last night's case a job executed
at 21:30 and ended successfully. The other job started to execute at 23:45 and
issued the message. The local fix is to purge the initiator of the job that is
holding the dsn.

Thank YOU

Do most of you keep the health checker up and running all the time? I usually
just start it periodically to see what is new that shows up. My concern in
keeping it running has to do with highlighted messages it puts on the console
(like when no operator is on duty). I was just curious how most people handle
it.

Zos 1.9

2009-03-31 Thread Carroll, William
Last weekend we converted to zos 1.9 with only the following problem. When the
programmers use 'sibbatch', while processing an ksds, there is a extra data
extent created, that is not cataloged. Since these are orphaned,
It does not take long to fill up a sms pool where they reside. If we use
'adrdssu', the problem does not occur.
The hardware is v2xf. Any thoughts or ideas?

Thank you in advance

I would drain the init that the job ran in and see if that released the enqueue.

That's management's job. And given some managers that I've had the

Subject: Phantom jobs after upgrade to z/OS 1.7

We recently upgraded from z/OS 1.4 to z/OS 1.7 and are now seeing "phantom"
active jobs that look like the following in response to a
JES2 $ DA command:

MAB 0290 $ DA
JOB0 0090 $HASP890 JOB(**TEMP**) 109
  109 0090 $HASP890 JOB(**TEMP**) STATUS=(ON
L99.JR1/MVS5),CLASS=A,
  109
0090 $HASP890PRIORITY=15,SYSAFF=(ANY),HOLD=(NONE)
JOB0 0090 $HASP890 JOB(**TEMP**) 110
  110 0090 $HASP890 JOB(**TEMP**) STATUS=(ON
L99.JR4/MVS5),CLASS=A,
  110
0090 $HASP890PRIORITY=15,SYSAFF=(ANY),HOLD=(NONE)

(I sent the previous lines in a fixed width font and hope they get to the
list that way. If not, my apologies.)

L99 is the NJE line that connects to our z/VM 5.3 system.

Once these phantom jobs show up they don't go away. (Though a JES2 cold
start does the trick.)

Does anyone know what these may be and what we need to do to stop them from
happening?

Thanks,

Subject: Re: Zos 1.7

I'm having trouble tying this 'problem' to a specific z/OS level, but we
discovered in early 2005 that one system in the enterprise was seeing hugely
elongated execution times for some catalog intensive jobs. Like 10 - 20
longer (!) on a massively configured production LPAR vs. even a puny little
sandbox. Diagnostic data--sorry I don't remember the mechanism--point to
GRS.

The one obvious difference was that the problem system was the only full
parallel sysplex *not* using GRS star. This system had been sysplexed some
time earlier in order to debug some DB2 issues, but the 'other' member was
not being IPLed on a regular basis. In other words, a single parallel
sysplex capable system running in practice by itself in GRS ring mode.
Taking the duh! approach, we converted the problem system/sysplex to GRS
star. The GRS delays disappeared immediately, making the system look just
like all the rest.

Just another thing to look at.

We converted to 1.7 over the weekend, mostly good, but a couple of really
weird problems. Job used to execute in 4 minutes now Takes 20...Only that
one job. A couple of jobs running snap, are taking a bit longer as well.
Is everybody running with the Catalog auto tune on? I am just grabbing at
straws. Any insight or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Sounds like there might be a (non-display?) protected field on the screen
with the MDT set (a technique once known as "using the screen for temp
storage").

I can't think of any other way that a just-received TIOA would contain
"baggage".

TIOA problem

2005-07-13 Thread Carroll, William
I have a transaction that does a 'receive' for when it begins
execution. All transactions in this region go through a single program,
then are xctl'd to the other programs. In 1 transaction only, the tioa
somehow is always getting the same string added. When the router type
program sees this, he sends the transaction on a different path. I have
dumped the programs involved, used xpeditor, used traces. When the first
transaction goes to 'exec cics return', there is nothing there. When the
second transaction kicks off, it is. Any help or pointers on finding this
would be greatly appreciated.
