TPC-R

2010-07-30 Thread Doyle Banks
Hi All,

Background: implementing TPC-R 4.1.1 on an IBM 2805 (SSPC) with WIN 2003 OS
for two DS8700s, mainframe attached.

Q1: Can copy sets (volume pairs) be added to a session that is already
running (i.e. in prepared state)?

Q2: Can a primary volume in a Global Mirror copy set (i.e. relationship) be
taken offline from the mainframe to be initialized, then brought back online
to the mainframe and continue its GM relationship? If NOT, can that copy set
be altered somehow to allow user to INIT the volume and resume the GM copy?
- Situation is that the customer wants to only manage one session for the
entire disk subsystem and wants to be able reinitialize free primary
volumes on the fly.

Thanks!

DB

Re: Bruce Black passed away

2007-11-06 Thread Doyle Banks
I am sorry to hear of Bruce's passing. The things that always struck me when I
spoke with him were:
- his incredible knowledge
- his ability to transmit that knowledge in understandable terms/language
- his attitude of being of service to others
- his respectfulness toward others regardless of their level(s) of knowledge.

May he rest in peace and blessings to his family, friends and co-workers who
knew him personally.

Re: Implementing a Tape Library with HSM

ARC0706I BACKUP OF VOLUME SYS200 AT 10:17:28 ON 2006/09/29 TERMINATED, NO
TAPE DAILY BACKUP VOLUME AVAILABLE

We have made every change we can think of to ARCCMD00, the SMS data and
storage classes and the storage group for the ATL, and to the ACS routines
(data class, storage class, storage group).

We want to use a global storage pool since we're going to the ATL.

Q: Do we have to do an ADDVOL for every tape in the ATL or is there a parm
we should be using (SETSYS?) to tell HSM to use all of the tapes in the ATL
as it's pool?

Implementing a Tape Library with HSM

2006-09-28 Thread Doyle Banks
Hi folks,

We're trying to implement an IBM 3494 ATL with an existing HSM. We've made
all of the changes, etc. suggested in the Redbook,IBM TotalStorage
Enterprise Tape: A Practical Guide (SG24-4632), section 5.3.14 DFSMShsm
Customization.

We were getting ARC0709I DATA SET BACKUP TASK TERMINATED, NO DAILY BACKUP
VOLUME AVAILABLE - so we did an ADDVOL 32 UNIT(3490-1) BACKUP DAILY
(4)). Where 32 is a tape volser in the ATL and DAILY(4) is/was today
in the backup cycle. Now, we aren't getting any messages in the HSM output
but, we also aren't getting the backup.

My hunch is that we aren't catching the correct data set name HLQ and 2LQ
in our storage class ACS routine. That brings up one question (of many): is
there a way to find out what HSM is using for the DSN of its backup file?
We checked the BACKUPPREFIX value and it seems to be okay (no errors
flagged for it on HSM start up).

I'm betting some/several of you have gone through this exercise. Your
input would be appreciated. If you want to send any extensive response and
prefer email, feel free to contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks all,

Doyle

Re: OSA-ICC Attachmate

2006-06-14 Thread Doyle Banks
I have had customers who used Attachmate successfully but it did take some
tinkering with the model setting and the screen size (number of rows and
columns).

fyi...you probably know that IBM states that PROCOMM is the supported
terminal emulator and while others may work, they won't support them.

Has anyone hooked up OSA-ICC using Attachmate? We are just getting into the

ICC thing and are not sure if this will support it. We've tried several
iterations of Attachmate, but don't seem to be able to make the final
connection.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Simple OSA-Express question.....

2006-06-14 Thread Doyle Banks
Hi,

Arturo is correct that you can define one or both of the OSA ports that you
will get with the new OSA card. You will need to find out what PCHIDs
will be assigned to those ports so that you can correctly define them with
the CHPIDs. You should be able to get the PCHID numbers from your SSR or
sales rep.

Also, do you mean that you have one ESCON channel (CHPID) remaining or did
you mean that there is one slot remaining which is where the new OSA card
will be placed? ESCON and OSA are two separate channel types and they come
on separate cards. The OSA card has two ports (or CHPIDs) per card. The
ESCON card has 16 ports per card (15 are useable, 1 is a spare).
