Re: z/OS 1.4 to 1.7 upgrade differences question

2008-03-27 Thread George Davis
It appears on the 1.7 system I am working on now, after getting a Data Set
List (=3.4) of a non-SMS dataset, that an "S" (Information - short) brings
up panel ISRUAIES and the **NONE** in MC and SC. However, "I" (Information)
brings up panel ISRUAIPO which does not display any SMS information.

Under 1.4, "S" brings up ISRUAIP, while "I" brings up ISRUAIPO.

LLA question

2006-11-11 Thread George Davis
I had a young SysProg come to me with a problem. He had created a new
member in a ISPF panel library, but when he went to browse the library, *NO
DATA* was shown instead of statistics, and the member seemed to be empty.

I can hear the giggles now.

After pointing out that the panel library was defined in LLA, with the
FREEZE option, he expressed surprise that LLA would be used for non-load
libraries. I showed him several other examples, but when I attempted to
find supporting documentation in the IBM manuals, I was stumped. Almost
every reference to LLA in INIT AND TUNING GUIDE, the ABC's OF SYSTEM
PROGRAMMING Redbook, and all other manuals I searched mention load modules
exclusively.

Has the practice of placing non-load modules in LLA been deprecated
somewhere between the early 1990's and now? Can anyone point me to when or
where this occurred?

Thanks for your help!

George D.

My guess is that the utilization for the pool was below the threshold, or
the low threshold was achieved before this dataset was migrated. Since
DFSMShsm does a pretty good job of keeping datasets on the quickest devices,
it will only migrate data if it has to.
