Been meaning to jump on the bandwagon here - I had two stents placed 2
years ago (LAD CFX). So far, so good.

If you are at risk - smokers especially (my Dr. said 95% of his patients
are smokers, as I was) you need a radiation stress test (or Thallium
stress test). Painless but a tad time consuming do it now even if
your insurance won't cover it. If it shows a blockage, then you go on
to the cath lab... no big deal either. Painless. If you are lucky, you
get a stent, if not, bypass. But at least you get it before it gets
you. Do it now if you think you need to.

Re: insane request: force load module to RMODE(24) AMODE(24)

You can use the Process Group parameter on the add/update panel.  Don't know
how it works internally, but we use it to specify MQ includes on linkedits for
our cobol processor.  Works reasonably well, but is sort of a PITA because I
aways forget the name of the processor group if I go a long time between
compiles

Subject: insane request: force load module to RMODE(24) AMODE(24)

We have a problem. We have a very old CICS application which is written
in HLASM and OS/VS COBOL 2.4. We want to convert the COBOL to Enterprise
COBOL. We have having many problems due mainly to lack of knowledge
about the code base. The programmer doing this is convinced that a/the
major problem is that Enterprise COBOL links as AMODE(31). He wants to
force the load module to AMODE(24). The only way that I can see to do
this is via the AMODE(24) parm in the Binder. However, we use CA-Endevor
for our program compiles and links. This means that we need a separate
Endevor processor which invokes the binder with the AMODE(24) parm. Any
ideas about another way to do this which would not require a new Endevor
processor? I don't know a lot about Endevor, but I don't see a way to
use the Binder's MODE command. And I don't know if this would be easier
to implement in Endevor than the PARM.

P.S. I am not as convinced as the programmer that the problems he is
encountering are due to the AMODE. But he is insistant and has the
political backing to force the issue. The only way to prove otherwise to
allow him to do his work in AMODE(24) and see if he still has the same
problems. He has already done a lot of figure out this for me type
requests to Tech Services.

It's not RDEF for DSN resources, Jim. Also, I strongl;y that it be
defined with WARN, to avoid a possibly serious disruption, and as a
GENERIC, for performance. The risks are PROBABLY minimal in this
approach, and you can audit EVERYTHING, to catch both users and updaters.

but open to the public? Granted, guessing their applids, userIDs
passwords would be quite difficult, but I am not a professional hacker,
so I don't know for sure how big an exposure it is. I know our

closed the window, backed out immediately and didn't even try looking

In one of the most significant transformations of its worldwide data centers

about 3,900 computer servers onto about 30 System z mainframes running the

That may be true for some of the smaller shops, but in my experience, the
large MVS shops with any history are pretty advanced. And while you don't
exactly have to be a rocket scientist to do a 3390 conversion, there are
some pretty sharp people working iin govt installatons - especially if you
include the contractors, which are probably in the majority in most shops.
BTW, what do you consider a pittance? Here's the govt pay scale and most IT
people are in the top 3 grades. http://www.opm.gov/oca/07tables/pdf/DCB.pdf
And considering the number of our brethern out of work in the US, it's a job
at least.

Another key reason that many shops are still running 3380 emulation: U.S.
Government budgets are quite often penny-wise and pound-foolish. Money
won't be spent to upgrade to 3390-type geometry because competent people
that can do that sort of work well simply won't work for the pittance that
government service offers.

change ICEGENER to IEBGENER (ICEGENER was getting a RC=12) and use a

anything? Looks like it's just routing the data through a USS file although

I don't know anything about the PIPES being discussed here. However, you
can pipe information from one job to another using standard JCL. Run
the following two jobs together, in separate initiators (of course!).
Oh, and make any JCL changes necessary!

//useridGW JOB (H0I),'TESTPIPE1',CLASS=D,MSGCLASS=X,
// TYPRUN=HOLD,
// NOTIFY=SYSUID,TIME=NOLIMIT
//STEP002  EXEC  PGM=ICEGENER
//SYSPRINT DD  SYSOUT=*
//SYSINDD  DUMMY
//SYSUT1   DD  DISP=SHR,DSN=SYS1.MACLIB(READ)
//SYSUT2 DD PATH='/tmp/MCKOWNPIPE',
// PATHDISP=(KEEP,KEEP),
// PATHMODE=(SIRUSR,SIWUSR),
// PATHOPTS=(OCREAT,OWRONLY),
// DSNTYPE=PIPE,
// LRECL=80,RECFM=F,BLKSIZE=80
//
/*EOF
//useridGR JOB (H0I),'TESTPIPE2',CLASS=D,MSGCLASS=X,
// TYPRUN=HOLD,
// NOTIFY=SYSUID,TIME=NOLIMIT
//STEP002  EXEC  PGM=ICEGENER
//SYSPRINT DD  SYSOUT=*
//SYSINDD  DUMMY
//SYSUT1 DD PATH='/tmp/MCKOWNPIPE',
// PATHDISP=(KEEP,KEEP),
// PATHMODE=(SIRUSR,SIWUSR),
// PATHOPTS=(OCREAT,ORDONLY),
// DSNTYPE=PIPE,
// LRECL=80,RECFM=F,BLKSIZE=80
//SYSUT2   DD  SYSOUT=*
//

The GW job will pipe SYS1.MACLIB(READ) to /tmp/MCKOWNPIPE, which will
be read and printed by the GR job. Whichever one starts first will wait
for the second one to start. When the GW job signals EOF, then both jobs
will terminate.

Yes, I want to specify in my jcl the name of partitioned without membername
having so a dynamic selection of its members.
If Rexx can't do, in you opinion, is there any tricks?

SYSLIB is a really good sample and exactly what I'm trying to reproduce.

Best regards.

Amdahl Training (was Some SMP Receive Help Needed)

2005-08-05 Thread Jim Harrison

It is now New Horizons (Labeled TechKnowledge locally in Columbia, MD)

Looks like they still have a decent lineup of mainframe training

I went to 2 classes around 1982. One was a 2 week MVS internals class. I
thought it was very good. The other was a Measurement and Tuning class,
which was also very good. I don't think they give mainframe training
anymore.

Re: My zos v1r3 ADCD has no OEDIT, how to install it?

2005-05-25 Thread Jim Harrison
Isn't that the responsibility of Listserv? I've never changed my REPLY-TO
option to post on IBM-Main.

However, I have noticed on occasion, that certain people retain their
original REPLY-TO headers and escape my filters.

First thing: when posting to ibm-main, be
sure your reply-to is set to ibm-main also,
otherwise people will reply to you directly

Thank you very much for your reply!!!
Sorry, I don't know how to set my reply-to to ibm-main instead of my
own gmail. I've also subscribed another
maillists(eg.ffmpeg,mplayer,etc), and there are not any similar
settings which I need to do. If you know how to let my gmail set
reply-to to ibm-main instead of my own gmail box, please let me know.
Thank you very much!

Sorry, can't help you there. I can help
with Netscape and Firefox, but gmail is
not a product / service I have worked with.
