I just wanted to add (for both comp.lang.cobol and IBM-MAIN) that if you DO submit a (new) "IBM Marketing REQUEST" to ask for an "enhancement" compiler option for Enterprise COBOL (or follow-on product) to make an omitted BLOCK CONTAINS clause to work the same as the existing (IBM extension) BLOCK CONTAIN 0 variation, that you should include two references to the existing requests:
