Hello all,

I'm trying to delete the following datasets:

PDB.SYSPROG.TMON.LMCICS.V22.VTCECNTL   *VSAM*
PDB.SYSPROG.TMON.LMCICS.V22.VTCECNTL.DATA  OPSPR2
PDB.SYSPROG.TMON.LMCICS.V22.VTCECNTL.INDEX OPSPR2

For the first one a 'D' states that it isn't cataloged.

For the other two a 'D' states that the datasets don't exist.

I've tries a delete NVR and a normal delete. Nothing works.

Can anyone make some suggestions as how to get these out of the system. An
ISPF 3.4 is showing these up.

Thanks.

I'm sure we can help you but I suspect a phone call will be needed. Why
don't you email me directly and I can give you my direct phone number. I
promise not to push any vendor tool on you! I'm sure we can get to the

Re: Help with deleting datasets which are not cataloged or don't exist.

2008-10-09 Thread Heloisa
First you need to check all the components. The LISTCAT is listing the BCS.
You should list the VVDS of the volume where the DATA and INDEX
components are located. Check if the entries are there and if they point to
the right catalog. Also, using 3.4 and specifying the VOLSER, see if the
datasets are there (if they have DSCB-1). The commands to be used depend
on what you find.
This is a sample job to list the VVDS:
//DEFFIL01 EXEC PGM=IDCAMS,REGION=2M
//SYSPRINT   DD SYSOUT=Q
//DDVVDS  DD
DSN=SYS1.VVDS.VSMSV01,DISP=SHR,AMP=AMORG,UNIT=SYSDA,
//VOL=SER=SMSV01
//SYSIN  DD *
   PRINT   INFILE(DDVVDS) SKIP(000)
/*

Where you must replace all SMSV01 with your volser.

2008-10-08 Thread Errol Van staden
Hi I replied yesterday on the Google group forum for IBMMAIN but saw no
posting when reading the Listserv postings today

What I have to say is if the VSAM is definitely uncataloged then the following
will work

) Run an IEHLIST LISTVTOC of the volume on which the VSAm DS resides
2) Check that the entry for the DSname is in the VTOC and that offset
X'52'
  in the Format-1 DSCB is equal to '14'
3) Run AMAZPZAP to zap the "14" to "10" for the name entry
4) Run IEHPROGM to SCRATCH the Dataset. IEHPROGM now thinks it is a
Sequential DS

Assuming you are on a current version of ISPF, if you check the 3.4
screen there is a field/option labelled "Display Catalog Name". If you
place a "/" there the display will show you what CATALOG the file(s)

Let's start at the beginning. In 3.4, enter
"PDB.SYSPROG.TMON.LMCICS.V22.VTCECNTL" in the DSNAME LEVEL field and
clear the volume field. Do you see all three and are the last two on
volume OPSPR2? If so, it is not a catalog or alias issue.

Repeat the process and add OPSPR2 to the volume field. Do the last two
show up? If not, what you have is a cluster without its components (as
if the pack was reinitialized or restored from a full volume dump taken
before the cluster was created).

Repeat step 1. To the left of the cluster name type "LISTCAT ENT(/)
ALL". (It is OK to overlap the name.) Does IDCAMS report any errors?
Do both components show up?

Once we have this information, we should be able to provide a working
solution instead of everyone grasping at straws.

Re: Help with deleting datasets which are not cataloged or don't exist.

2008-10-08 Thread Scott Rowe
Howard,

The point of my last reply is this: These datasets are NOT uncataloged. You
need to get that idea out of your head. This is a VSAM cluster that is indeed
cataloged, but you seem to be having a problem locating them in your catalog
structure. Get away from any ideas of uncataloging these entries - even if you
were to succeed in doing so, you would then have uncataloged VSAM elements on
disk, which would be a whole other problem you would need to deal with.

I would suggest that you re-run the listcat you posted, but add the "ALL"
parameter, and show us the output. We could then proceed from there.

It is not at all clear to me what you have. Clearly, these are cataloged in
a BCS. Either in the master catalog or in a user catalog with an
appropriate alias. Otherwise, they wouldn't show up under a DSLIST. I
think you need to answer these questions.

1. What happens if you do a LISTCAT ALL on these? Is the first a cluster
with associations to the other two?

2. is volume OPSPR2 online?

3. If it is online, see if the last two are in the volume.

4. Run a pair if DIAGNOSEs between the VVDS on that volume and the BCS that
these are cataloged in.

This information will help to determine what to do next.

Just a shot in the dark. From your 3.4 list, try
entering a line command of DEL (not D - they generate
different commands) against the cluster (VSAM) name only.

What you've got here is a VSAM Cluster. List the catalogs to find the
catalog that contains it, then do a

 DELETE  PDB.SYSPROG.TMON.LMCICS.V22.VTCWCNTL   CLUSTER -
CAT(catalog name)

It sounds like you may be mis-cataloged. Is the HLQ valid in your
catalog? Is it an alias pointing to another catalog?

Hello all,

I'm trying to delete the following datasets:

PDB.SYSPROG.TMON.LMCICS.V22.VTCECNTL   *VSAM*
PDB.SYSPROG.TMON.LMCICS.V22.VTCECNTL.DATA  OPSPR2
PDB.SYSPROG.TMON.LMCICS.V22.VTCECNTL.INDEX OPSPR2

For the first one a 'D' states that it isn't cataloged.

For the other two a 'D' states that the datasets don't exist.

I've tries a delete NVR and a normal delete. Nothing works.

Can anyone make some suggestions as how to get these out of the system. An
ISPF 3.4 is showing these up.

Thanks.

Try again, this time use only NOSCRATCH.

And, as another poster pointed out, verify we are working in the catalog
we think we are working in.

If all that fails, let's take a look at the specific error message(s).

This has been talked about numerous times, try the archives.
Easiest way is to recatalog the DSN and then delete it (hopefully no BCS

Could these datasets be catalogued/shared on another system? If so, and they
are unallocated and unwanted, then delete NOSCRATCH them from each system. On
the last system use the SCRATCH.
