Another Mainstar claification on Secuity
On April 19, 2007, Mainstar sent out an eLetter that included an announcement regarding these two new Mainstar security products. The announcement, which was included in error, incorrectly suggested a retailer's recent computer security breach occurred on a z/OS mainframe. Mainstar now has information indicating that was not the case; no z/OS mainframe was involved. We will follow up at a later date with a subsequent eLetter that specifically talks about how Mainstar can help: Extend your existing two-factor authentication infrastructure to mainframe logons and applications; and Allow full bidirectional access between your mainframe security repositories and your existing LDAP fabric. -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
Mainstar Retraction

Mainstar to be acquired by Rocket Software
FYI From: Ron Ferguson , I'm pleased to announce that Rocket Software, a Boston-based developer of Enterprise Infrastructure products, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Mainstar. The closing of the transaction is expected to occur on July 31, 2006. We're excited about what this change means for Mainstar and for you. In addition to continuing to provide crucial software, services, support, and expertise that you can trust, this new partnership with Rocket will ensure that we can deliver innovative features and solutions faster. Because we'll continue to operate under the Mainstar brand, and with all of our current staff, you'll experience the unbeatable support that you expect from Mainstar. We're continuing our dedication to solving z/OS business issues with integrity, and we'll continue to support and enhance the Mainstar solutions that you have now - and we'll develop the solutions you need for the future. I'm very proud that Mainstar has stayed true for 27 years to our core competency. While we started in 1978 as a mainframe education and training company, and transitioned in 1986 to a software and services company, the technical direction throughout our history has been mainframe storage management, ICF catalog management, and business continuity. Mainstar and Rocket Software fit each other tremendously well, in terms of technology, product lines, and corporate values, so this agreement will strengthen our commitment to you. I promise that we'll continue to exceed your expectations with innovation and expertise. Re: Mainstar to be acquired by Rocket Software
While I am pleased for both Mainstar and Rocket Software, I am sad that I will no longer know a President and CEO of a major corporation. Not that Ron ever acted like one! I want to take this opportunity in this public forum to personally thank Ron for his decades of untiring dedication to the platform we all love. I hope that he still plans to continue to educate us on things VSAM and catalogs. Not only that, Bruce, but on the same announcement page, they *announced* the very same products. Maybe Ron will see this thread and clarify the situation for us. Boy, this should make SHARE in Seattle this March an interesting place. I know that Mainstar does lots of sessions, and I thought some of them were even joint sessions with IBM. This has got to put a strain on the entire relationship I would imagine. Russell -Original Message- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Kopischke, David G.
