  Just a wild guess...

You mentioned there is Z/OS 1.6 system which is running without

these two
systems sharing the RACF database? Have they run together before
the ESS

If they are sharing the RACF database and this might be the first
IPL of
the Z/OS 1.12 system, then I would look at the results of the RACF
database
template upgrade job. It might be possible the RACF database has
not been

complaining

  Just my thoughts...

It's been my experience that RACF will always initialize with a

template

RACF server disabled During IPL

2011-09-23 Thread jagadishan perumal
Hi,

After ESS battery change , unfortunately due to power drip cluster was
restarted which led to abnormal shutdown of ZOS 1.12. After the hardware fix
, we did a POR and tried reloading the OS ,we found the below messages in
the console while IPLing which stopped further system proceeding.

ERROR MESSAGES:

IRR418I RACF product disabled : IRRSSI00 ended

BPX006E OMVs is pending for security product

AXR0501E System REXX is waiting for Security product.

I have even checked IFAPRDXX parmlib and the security server option is
Enabled :

PRODUCT OWNER('IBM CORP')
   NAME('z/OS')
   ID(5694-A01)
   VERSION(*) RELEASE(*) MOD(*)
   FEATURENAME('SECURITY SERVER')

STATE(ENABLED)

Details on Version :

Z/OS V1R12.

RSU1011

Could anyone please suggest your experts comment.

Regards,

Jags

You could check if the POR used the correct Activation Profile, with the
correct IOCDS and that the correct I/O configuration was loaded and that
the system IPLed from the correct volume(s). Defaulting to an old
Activation Profile might give surprising results.

first of all, try the T PROD=00 command to see if this is going to
activate RACF server.

After that, double check your parmlib chain to verify that the correct

You write about ESS battery and power drip. Therefore I would not expect
problems with IOCDS or CPC setup. Instead there seems to be a problem with
the RACF data base volumes. Description for IRR418I reads two more
possible causes next to RACF product not enabled. You might want to
review ESS configuration from it's SE. May be there's no path to your RACF
data base volumes, more precise to the Vol Sers holding your data base
volumes. Or even more precise: no *valid* path to the Vol Sers, e.g. due
to loss of power the questioned 3390 is in inconsistent state. I would
look for IOS messages in syslog, just around RACF initialization, as a
starting point.

Re: RACF server disabled During IPL

2011-09-23 Thread jagadishan perumal

We have shared DASD evnvironment where two hardware Z9 and Z800 OS share the
ESS. After the POR we were able to make the Z9 servers up , but the Z800 -
OS V1R12 are not coming up and throwing this messages. In Z800 we have
another LPAR which is active (OS V1R6) from their we are able to view the
SYS1.RACF(Primary racf database Volumes)

Can you enter display commands at the console. I would then check D
IPLINFO, D IOS,CONFIG and check the availability of the DASDs. I think
that either the volumes of the RACF db is unavailable or the power crash
has damaged the database so that it is unusable. In this case I think
you must restore your RACF db.

We had pinned data on a DS8000 after unplanned loss of power which is in
result the same as your ESS error. IBM 2nd level support had to reset
the cache data. After that we could start the system again.

Hi,

Some where in this chain I saw POR. If you are LPAR based is it possible
that you ran out of Logical Control Units?
If so you need to change your activation order of LPARS.
This happens with older 3390 control units with a lot of LPARs.

Cheers

If there were a problem with accessing the RACF database volumes you would get
messages from RACF to that effect, and a prompt to enter a different database
name. Instead the OP got a message about the product not being registered,
which is very specific to a problem with IFAPRDxx or to product registration
processing.

There is an MVS APAR related to issues with overlaid product registration
information. I'm a bit surprised that this would have happened so early in the
IPL sequence, but I suppose it's possible.

It would be interesting to know if there were any RACF messages preceding the
IRR418I, as that particular IRR418I message occurred during initialization of
the optional RACF subsystem, which happens much later (in the overall scheme of
MVS initialization) than RACF itself initializing.

But I agree with another list member that it's most appropriate to open a PMR
with IBM.

Hi Jags,

I too agree that a PMR is in order.

Have you checked the HMC for messages?

Just a wild guess...

You mentioned there is Z/OS 1.6 system which is running without these problems
and the system which fails is a Z/OS 1.12 system. Are these two systems
sharing the RACF database? Have they run together before the ESS problem?

If they are sharing the RACF database and this might be the first IPL of the
Z/OS 1.12 system, then I would look at the results of the RACF database
template upgrade job. It might be possible the RACF database has not been
upgraded to the 1.12 level of the templates and RACF could be complaining about
the downlevel database.

Just my thoughts...

Since z/OS V1.5 (around 9 years ago) it has not been necessary to run a RACF
template job before IPLing a new release of z/OS and RACF. But if it were a
problem with the database RACF would not say it was a problem with product
registration.

In any case, I believe the OP has his answer via the PMR he opened.

It's been my experience that RACF will always initialize with a
back-level database, but new functions that require database update
and/or template update may or may not function.
