Piping for z/OS

2023-01-06 Thread Hobart Spitz
zPipe is a piping facility for z/OS. It's available on CBT Tape file1035
on the updates page.

https://www.cbttape.org/updates.htm

The CBT file contains fuller code and more modules than in the presentation
below.

Here is the presentation about it.

Q: What do you call the residence of the ungulate with the largest antlers?
A: A moose pad.
:-D
Would you rather pass data in move mode (*nix piping) or locate mode
(Pipes) or via disk (JCL)? Why do you think you rarely see *nix commands
with more than a dozen filters, while Pipelines specifications are commonly
over 100s of stages, and 1000s of stages are not uncommon.
REXX is the new C.

z/OSMF Software Update does not handle RECEIVE or ACCEPT of service --
only APPLY.  And, even that is optional...

Not to order, but to install any kind of ServerPac, you have to use a zOSMF
Serverpac in PSI format (portable software instance), and installation can
only be done via z/OSMF

Updates to z/OS FTP - APAR PH42618

2023-01-06 Thread Lionel B. Dyck
IBM has introduced additional, and much needed, security for z/OS FTP.

See https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/apar/PH42618

Problem summary

* USERS AFFECTED:  *
* All users of the IBM Communications Server for z/OS Version *
* 2 Release 3, 4, and 5 IP: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)   *
* Server   *

* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: *
* New function - Addition of FTP Server JES access control *

* RECOMMENDATION:  *
* Apply PTF*

Problem conclusion

This APAR introduces a new SAF resource in the SERVAUTH class to
control access to FTP JES mode. The new SAF resource is
EZB.FTP.systemname.ftpdaemonname.ACCESS.JES.

Re: ZFS Address Space, shared ENQ but filesystem isn't mounted

2023-01-06 Thread kekronbekron
Personally, I was hoping there'd be more benefit, rather than just the zOSMF
startup time.
Was hoping OMVS STC itself would show reduced MSU somehow (than OMVS + zFS as
it were).
Or at least a significant EXCP drop.
