Some articles posted regarding the 2015 OPM Breach at the Department of the
Interior Data Center implied that DOI Mainframes were hacked. This is not the
case.

Re: 'Hacking The Mainframe': What Hollywood Gets Wrong About Its Favorite Tech

The Model 75 was a beast. Just doing a lamp test would cause a power flux in
the ovehead lights. I'm not sure how much main and LCS storage was hung off of
it, but, by standards (s/370 was already gaining marketshare) it was impressive
in the number of Jobs we could pump out of it. The standing joke about
Greyhound Computer Corporation was Trailways Computer Corporation?.

Your drifting nostalgic contribution goes a long way in distinguishing the
cultural differences in data processing (excuse me.. I.T.) back in those days.
I worked weekends as an Operator at Greyhound Computer Corporation in S.F.
with a 360/30, 360/50, and 360/75 on the floor. A mezzanine ran across the
upper floor used as client work areas. On a Sunday night, one of the senior
system programmers, Tom, and two of his friends walked in and said hello.
Shortly after, all of the overhead lights started to shut off, and as I was
trying to figure out what was going on, I spotted Tom and his friends enjoying
a System/360 light show from the mezzanine. After about fifteen minutes,
the overhead lights came back on, and Tom had cleared out. I'm certain that
illegal substances were involved, but no harm done and another weird
expereience logged in this interesting and long lasting occupation.

IT Campus does not preclude the absence of server and network hardware which
is the purpose of my inquiry.

New Kaiser Permanente Data Center in Colorado

2013-01-02 Thread Michael Seeman
Happy New Year. There was a recent article in the Denver Post regarding a
new Kaiser Permanente data center being ramped-up in the Denver Area,
Englewood to be specific. The Denver paper stated that there would be
approximately 800 employees in this facility. I'm presuming that Mainframe
support personnel would be in included, but I'm not sure, and I'm not seeing
any IT support jobs being advertised in the Denver area. Does anybody on this
post know anything about this new facility? If this is not an appropriate
topic for this Listserve, I apologize ahead of time.
