HSM Duplexing
Dear Listers We are installling new tape libraries and thinking of migrating from HSM duplexing between Production and DR site to controller level hardware mirroring.. We are z/os, hsm, rmm, oam multiplex site.. can it be done with minumum risk..Final goal is to save some CPU cycles, align Virtual tape libraries with the disks and decomission old tape libraries.. regards, Munif. -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
Re: HSM Duplexing
What level of z/OS are you running? What tape libraries will you be using? Do you mean Replication between Tape Libraries? How far apart are the Production and DR Sites for the tape libraries? BTW: IMHO your goal - to save CPU cycles is not realistic. CPU savings on duplex-monoplex change will be marginal. Of course hardware duplexing (only possible for virtual tapes) is fine, because you can duplex any tape, not only HSM tapes. Re: HSM Duplexing
Thanks Mr Skorupka Duh..Question is how to migrate from HSM duplexing to Hardware mirroring.. Can not find any easy way except than migrating HSM duplexing as it is now to new libraries and then convert overnight to Hardware mirroring.. For us better would be to make old library read only ( or seletive volumes) and let new srcatch requirements go to new Libraries and eventually recycle old HSM tapes.. regards Munif. -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
Re: HSM Duplexing
Munif, We will be changing from HSM Copy of ML2 data to a single copy and that Tape Library will replicate to the DR site. So we will recycle tapes as needed. And allow new scratch work to go to the new Library and allow the tapes in the old library (VTS/ATL) slowly fall off. We will setup ACS code and a new ESOTERIC for the new Library. Hope that helps.
