Limited Availability at IETF 120 Headquarter Hotel and Registration Reminder

2024-05-31 Thread IETF Secretariat
# Limited Availability at Headquarter Hotel

The IETF room block at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver (the meeting venue & main
hotel for IETF 120) and the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre (overflow) are sold
out on 19 and 20 July, with limited availability on 26 July. IETF 120
participants will only be able to book at the IETF group rate on 19 and 20 July
if a cancellation within the IETF room block occurs. Rooms remain available on
21-26 July.

We are continuing to work with the Hyatt Regency Vancouver to determine if
additional nights can be added, and in the meantime are investigating
additional options. We will send follow up announcements as more information
becomes available. If you have questions or concerns related to hotel
reservations please send an email to supp...@ietf.org. If you plan to cancel
your reservation for any reason, please send an email to the 120attendees list.

If you are planning to start your IETF meeting week on 19 or 20 July and are
still looking for accommodation, we recommend you consider booking those nights
at an alternative hotel. Alternatively, though our room block is sold out, the
Hyatt may still have limited inventory on those days that you can book at their
prevailing rate to still take advantage of the exceptional room rate that the
IETF has on the available dates. There are also properties available on AirBnb
and Vrbo at rates that might be suitable, as well as the other suggestions that
have been proposed on the attendees list.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience the limited availability may
cause. The hotel room block at the Hyatt for IETF 120 was secured several years
ago, prior to the notable increase in Hackathon participation. Despite
exhaustive efforts, we were unable to renegotiate the contract to secure
additional rooms for these nights. This challenge is compounded by the
exceptional negotiated room rate that we have for IETF 120, and the high demand
of Vancouver as a destination in July.

For current information see:

https://www.ietf.org/meeting/120/hotel/

Community Call for Comments: (RFC Formats and Versions)

2024-05-15 Thread IETF Secretariat
The RFC Series Approval Board (RSAB) has received a request from the
RFC Series WG (RSWG) to approve the following document as informational
RFC on the editorial stream:

(RFC Formats and Versions)

Following RFC 9280, the RSAB solicits final comments from a wide range
of communities. Please send substantive comments to the
r...@rfc-editor.org mailing lists by 2024-05-29. Please retain the
beginning of the Subject line to allow automated sorting.

Abstract

In order to improve the readability of RFCs while supporting their
archivability, the definitive version of the RFC Series transitioned
from plain-text ASCII to XML using the RFCXML vocabulary; different
publication versions are rendered from that base document. This
document describes how RFCs are published.

This document obsoletes RFC 7990. This document also updates the
   stability policy in RFC 9280.

A URL of this Internet-Draft is:

   https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-rswg-rfc7990-updates/

The RSAB would like to bring special attention to the fact that this document,
which replaces RFC7990 to update the terminology and current RFC publication
practice, also changes to the properties of the RFC series as currently
outlined in RFC9280. This change means that once an RFC is published, the
definitive and publication versions of an RFC will no longer be immutable, but
may be updated by the RPC, with the utmost care being given to preserve the
original semantic content.

New Non-WG Mailing List: skex (Symmetric Key Exchange)

2024-03-12 Thread IETF Secretariat

List address: s...@ietf.org
Archive: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/browse/skex/
To subscribe: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/skex

Purpose:
Asymmetric-key cryptography is a powerful tool for securing communication but
it does have some shortcomings and limitations, including that they are
generally computationally intensive, and their security relies on the
difficulty of solving certain mathematical problems, which can be solved over
time with improvements in computational capacity or mathematical advances. The
arrival of the quantum era is now additionally jeopardizing the security of key
exchanges based on asymmetric cryptography. This drives the requirement for the
establishment of keys protected by symmetric cryptography, without dependence
on asymmetric algorithms.

This list is for discussion of a common framework for protocols for the
creation and/or use of such symmetric keys.

their t-shirt delivered after the meeting.

# Remote participation fee waivers

We understand that not everyone can afford the remote registration fee and so
we make an unlimited number of remote participation fee waivers. This operates
on a trust basis with no checks on eligibility, and the list of fee waiver
recipients is kept confidential. If you wish to participate remotely but cannot
afford the registration fee then please take the fee waiver option:

New Non-WG Mailing List: tdd (Technology Deep Dives)

2024-01-12 Thread IETF Secretariat
A new IETF non-working group email list has been created.

List address: t...@ietf.org
Archive: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/browse/tdd/
To subscribe: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/tdd

Purpose:
This is the working area for IETF Technology Deep Dives (TDD) Planning.

It is intended for use by TDD coordinators, TDD panelists, and IESG sponsors.

TDDs are cross-area presentations, organized by the IESG, and held in
conjunction with [IETF meetings](https://www.ietf.org/how/meetings/).

The characteristics of TDDs are that they

 * focus on cross-area topics
 * explain ways that IETF standards can be used
 * explain ways that these standards can be misused, based on partial
understandings
 * can also provide feedback to IETF working groups responsible for these
standards, and to other IETF working groups

Past TDD sessions are included in [IETF Meeting
Proceedings](https://datatracker.ietf.org/group/tdd/meetings/). Like all IETF
meetings, they are also archived on the [IETF YouTube
channel](https://www.youtube.com/@ietf).

New Non-WG Mailing List: id-align (Identity Alignment)

List address: id-al...@ietf.org
Archive: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/browse/id-align/
To subscribe: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/id-align

Purpose:
When asked for a definition of identity, most people will offer a definition
that they believe will be well understood by others, but few of the definitions
will have significant overlap. This lack of alignment on the term identity
extends to other terms of art, leading to confusion.

In the multi-cloud era, any secure solution must have clear end-to-end identity
mechanisms that span all identity layers: user, device, and workload. The rise
of zero-trust requires well-defined identity solutions that enable the
enforcement of the least-privilege principle. Executive orders and various
regulations around cybersecurity are increasingly putting identity and privacy
in the spotlight.

The goal of this mailing list is to discuss how to align identity related work
being done in the IETF.

Specific alignment would include:
• Collecting existing terminology and making it broadly available so that terms
start to be used consistently.
• Raising awareness of identity related work between identity related work
streams

List address: sp...@ietf.org
Archive: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/browse/spice/
To subscribe: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/spice

Purpose:
The Secure Patterns for Internet CrEdentials (SPICE) mailing list is dedicated
to discussions about "verifiable credentials." A verifiable credential is a set
of cryptographically signed statements, typically about a uniquely identifiable
subject. It operates on a three-party model involving an issuer (who issues the
credential), a holder (who stores, and may present the credential to other
parties), and a verifier (who verifies the credential's authenticity). Identity
plays a key role in verifiable credentials, and non-anonymous use cases where
disclosure of the subject identifier is common. Identities used with verifiable
credentials also tend to be long lived and strongly bound to individuals or
business entities. The focus of our discussions is primarily on the application
and nuances of this model in relation to the IETF's work items, and especially
in the use and construction of CBOR encoded verifiable credentials and
identifiers for use cases outside of authentication and auth
 orization.k

New Non-WG Mailing List: snmp-tlstm-reg-review

Archive: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/browse/snmp-tlstm-reg-review/
To subscribe: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/snmp-tlstm-reg-review

Purpose:
RFC 6353 defined an SnmpTLSFingerprint, which included a one-octet hash
algorithm identifier according to the values assigned by the IANA "TLS
HashAlgorithm" registry. However, this registry is no longer in use for (D)TLS
1.3 and above and is not expected to have any new registrations added to it.

RFC 9456 revises the definition of SnmpTLSFingerprint to indicate that the
one-octet algorithm identifier uses the values in the new IANA "SNMP-TLSTM
HashAlgorithm" registry. The new registry is consistent with the TLS
HashAlgorithm registry for its initial values but can be extended as needed to
support new hashing algorithms without implying that the new values can be used
by (D)TLS version 1.2.

The new mailing list can be used to request new identifier assignments in the
SNMP TLSTM HashAlgorithm registry.

shaped the history of modern art from the early twentieth century to our own
time. There will be a wide array of food and beverages to suit all tastes and
will include vegetarian and vegan options.

Transportation will not be provided as the venue is a short 15 minute walk from

New Non-WG Mailing List: rosa (Routing on Service Addresses)

2023-06-13 Thread IETF Secretariat
A new IETF non-working group email list has been created.

List address: r...@ietf.org
Archive: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/browse/rosa/
To subscribe: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/rosa

Purpose:
In recent years, virtualization has enabled deployment of services instances in
more than one network location with sub-second service execution availability
through containers and server-less architectures. The term 'service-based
routing' (SBR) captures the mechanisms for discovering and selecting suitable
(distributed) service endpoints, positioned as an anycast problem that requires
selection of one of the possibly many choices for service execution at the very
start of a service transaction. The ROSA (Routing on Service Addresses) list
will discuss the problem of and ways forward for SBR where the anycast
selection may frequently change.

IETF 117 Childcare & Early-Bird Registration Ending

2023-05-25 Thread IETF Secretariat
Childcare

Thanks to the generous support of our Diversity and Inclusion Gold sponsors,
Akamai, Cisco and Huawei, we are excited to offer onsite childcare at IETF 117
in San Francisco.

We are excited to announce that Rose Event Nannies [1] will once again be
joining us to provide childcare. This service is offered free of charge to
registered IETF participants and initially provides space for up to ten
children. We strongly encourage advance sign up to give us sufficient time to
investigate adding more space if this service becomes fully booked. Profiles
and photos of the nannies that will be caring for your child(ren) during IETF
117 will be available online shortly. Additional information and the link to
the form to sign up for the childcare services can be found directly on your
attendee dashboard. Please note: forms will need to be filled out entirely and
emailed to supp...@ietf.org.

This is the IETF’s fourth time offering childcare at a meeting, following the
last successful edition at IETF 116. We would like to hear from parents how to
make this service as useful as possible. We are open to exploring additional or
alternative forms of childcare support for future meetings. Please send your
suggestions directly to supp...@ietf.org or to the public admin-discuss list.

Hotel Rates for IETF 117 San Francisco, 22-28 July 2023

2023-05-11 Thread IETF Secretariat
As you register for IETF 117 and begin booking your hotel accommodations, we
encourage you to visit the direct Hilton website [1] and compare the public
room rate to the IETF-negotiated room block rate. For this particular meeting
you may find that you can get a lower room rate by booking directly rather than
using the IETF room block link.

Typically, when booking the IETF room rate you will be offered a lower rate
than what is available to the general public, however, occasionally hotels may
offer special incentives to encourage other travelers to stay with them. We
call this to your attention now because we want to ensure you receive the best
possible rates available. For IETF117, we will receive credit for all rooms
booked within and outside of our room block, so your reservation will still be
supporting IETF, no matter how you book.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out directly at
supp...@ietf.org.

suitable for the use-case of end-to-end encryption. Importantly, users can
efficiently search a KT server for only the entries that are relevant to them
and check that the server responded honestly. KT servers can also better

List address: hot...@ietf.org
Archive: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/browse/hotrfc/
To subscribe: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/hotrfc

Purpose:
This mailing list is for anyone requesting an agenda slot for a pre-IETF
Request for Conversation (HotRFC) lightning talk session.

Goals for these lightning talks can include encouraging brainstorming
conversations, helping new work proposers find collaborators, raising awareness
of relevant work going on elsewhere, and promoting BarBoFs.

Presenters will have 4 minutes to make their case for collaboration.
With strict time limits, concise talks will give viewers a sense of whether
they’d like to know more and, importantly, coordinates on how to do so.
Interested folks can contact the presenter and continue the discussion after
the session.

With the current hybrid IETF meeting format, we’re going to keep things rather
simple and permit only live presentations, either on-site or remote via
MeetEcho. Slides must be submitted in advance.

To request a slot, submit a short abstract to hot...@ietf.org no later than
2400 UTC, Friday, prior to an IETF meeting. The abstract should include the
following

- Talk title
- Presenter, Affiliation, and whether you’ll be presenting in person or remotely
- Short topic abstract (topics should be IETF- or IRTF-related in some way)
- What you're looking for (education, collaborators, implementers, etc.)
- How to learn more, contact those involved, participate in existing mailing
lists and scheduled meetings, and/or relevant formal or side meetings.
- Any relevant drafts or helpful resources you’d like collaborators to look at

To provide slides, submit ppt or pdf to hot...@ietf.org no later than 2400 UTC,
Saturday, of IETF meeting week.
The actual talks will be given on Sunday evening of IETF meeting week.

Talk abstracts and slides will be posted on the datatracker IETF meeting
agenda. The agenda will be updated as requests and slides come in.

New Non-WG Mailing List: sml (Structured Email)

2023-02-02 Thread IETF Secretariat
A new IETF non-working group email list has been created.

List address: s...@ietf.org
Archive: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/browse/sml/
To subscribe: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/sml

Purpose:
Email remains one of the most widely used internet technologies, even in
an era of increasing competition from other communication tools such as
instant messaging. While many RFCs have updated and extended initial
email specifications, the major inner workings of email remain widely
unchanged since their inception. In particular, email is still mostly a
text-based medium, which requires a lot of human attention, even though
more and more so called "transactional" emails are authored in an
automated fashion. Accordingly, the task of dealing with large amounts
of email is still a major challenge for many users.

The goal of "structured email" is to replace or extend text-based email
messages with message parts that describe content in a machine-readable
way. The proposed approach aims to enable novel ways of how users and
automated programs can interact via email while retaining downwards
compatibility with existing email standards, e.g., by specifying certain
header fields and MIME body parts based on the Internet Message Format
[RFC5322]. An additional discovery mechanism would help senders to
determine which types of structured email an indented recipient is
willing to accept.

The purpose of this list is to provide a space to discuss requirements,
existing solutions, and to identify areas for standardization. See also
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/bofreq-happel-structured-email and
related documents for details.

IETF 116 General Information, Social Event, and Childcare

2023-01-24 Thread IETF Secretariat
General Information for IETF 116

When booking your hotel, please be aware that the Intercontinental Yokohama
Grand (the primary IETF hotel) is a ten minute walk from the meeting venue,
PACIFICO Yokohama North. This meeting venue is different from the venue for
IETF 94. Please refer to the map [1] for more information.

The IETF 116 Welcome Reception will take place over three hours (versus the
typical two) from 1700-2000 on Sunday, March 26th at the PACIFICO Yokohama
North. Featuring a number of demonstrations from WIDE members, the reception
will also include more robust food and beverage options.

Social Event

The IETF 116 social event will take place on Thursday, March 30th. Please note
the day change, as social events are typically held on Tuesdays of the meeting
week. Thanks to our host WIDE, we are excited to announce that our social will
be held at the Osanbashi Hall. It promises to be a very special evening, with
more details to come soon!

Childcare

Thanks to the generous support of our Diversity and Inclusion Gold sponsors,
Akamai, Cisco and Huawei, and Bronze sponsors Comcast, ICANN, and Identity
Digital, we are excited to offer onsite childcare at IETF 116 in Yokohama.

After a well run service at IETF 115 in London, we are excited to announce that
Rose Event Nannies [2] will once again be joining us to provide childcare. This
service is offered free of charge to registered IETF participants and initially
provides space for up to ten children. We strongly encourage advance sign up to
give us sufficient time to investigate adding more space if this service
becomes fully booked. Profiles and photos of the nannies that will be caring
for your child(ren) during IETF 116 are now available online. Additional
information and the link to the form to sign up for the childcare services are
also available via the FAQ [3] page.

This is the IETF’s third time offering childcare at a meeting, following the
last successful edition at IETF 115. We would like to hear from parents how to
make this service as useful as possible. We are open to exploring additional or
alternative forms of childcare support for future meetings. Please send your
suggestions directly to supp...@ietf.org or to the public admin-discuss list.

REMINDER: IETF 116 Early Bird Registration Deadline Approaching

2023-01-09 Thread IETF Secretariat
IETF 116 Yokohama, Japan and online
25-31 March 2023
Hosted by: WIDE

This is a reminder to register for IETF 116 onsite in Yokohama or remote
participation. Early-bird registration closes February 6th, 2023, after which
time, prices will increase. More information regarding registration can be
found below:

https://registration.ietf.org

In order to register and participate in IETF 116 you will need an existing IETF
Datatracker account or you can create one now [1] or during registration. This
account is used to authenticate you with Meetecho, our meeting participation
tool used by both remote and onsite participants.

IETF 116 will be a 7-day hybrid meeting on 25-31 March. Agenda details for the
IETF 116 meeting will be published on 24 February. The IETF Hackathon [2] will
be held 25-26 March. Full details about the IETF 116 meeting are available at:

https://www.ietf.org/how/meetings/116/

You may wish to consult our detailed FAQ that aims to answer the main questions
about travel, registrations, hotel bookings, and the mechanics of onsite
participation:

https://www.ietf.org/how/meetings/116/faq/

The IETF 116 meeting venue is the Pacifico Yokohama North [3], a modern
conference center with excellent facilities.

Once you have registered, you will be sent a link (also available on your
attendee dashboard [4]) that allows you to reserve a guest room at the
InterContinental Yokohama Grand hotel, which is next to the venue. Staying at
the main conference hotel has a number of benefits, including close proximity
to the venue, free unfiltered high-speed internet provided by the IETF NOC, a
specially negotiated room rate and of course being in the same hotel as many
other IETF participants. The IETF also negotiates rates at other suitable
hotels to provide you with cheaper alternatives. You can book one of these or
make your own arrangements without registering first. For full details of all
the recommended hotels see:

https://www.ietf.org/how/meetings/116/hotel/

the registration fee then please take the fee waiver option:

New Non-WG Mailing List: CAN (Computing-Aware Networking)

List address: c...@ietf.org
Archive: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/browse/can/
To subscribe: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/can

Purpose:
Most modern services create multiple service instances that are often
geographically distributed in multiple sites, including on-premises or cloud
data centers, to scale up the service offerings and performances. As any of
those sites can serve one service, the conditions at those sites are just as
important as the network conditions derived by routing protocols & TE for the
service performances. This is especially true in the edge computing
environment, where the network connecting the service instances sites and
requesters is relatively small. Computing-Aware Networking(CAN) aims to
discuss how the traditional routing decision processes on ingress nodes are
influenced by the edge data centers' computing-related resource conditions. It
will also discuss the metrics based on the characterization of the computing
resources and the methods to distribute the metrics.

message exchange, webchat or email thread. The data in the container relating
to the conversation may include Call Detail Records (CDR), call meta data,
participant identity information (e.g. STIR PASSporT), the actual
conversational data exchanged (e.g. audio, video, text), realtime or post
conversational analysis and attachments of files exchanged during the
conversation. A standardized conversation container enables many applications,
establishes a common method of storage and interchange, and supports identity,

common to many IM systems, focusing on the most immediate needs first; to
identify and evaluate existing solutions to these specific problems; and to
assemble standards and technology which already largely exist into profiles

participants and initially provides space for up to ten children. We strongly
encourage advance sign up to give us sufficient time to investigate adding more
space if this service becomes fully booked.

Please see the online FAQ [2] for more information and a link to the form to

Purpose:
Crypto currencies (such as Bitcoin) and their DLT networks (such as Blockchain)
don’t concern themselves with the underlying TCP/IP network. They have a P2P
network,
with a pool of transport layer (TCP, UDP) connections, and they have done a
good job
securing their application and hope the TCP/IP network performs as needed.
What is the impact of choices made by the application design on the network,
e.g.,
in terms of costs, traffic generated etc.? This list help share work to
understand the
impact of DLTs on provider networks and the possible opportunities to improve on
those impacts. And there are a variety of opportunities to understand including
DLTs
potentially providing better trust with packet capture data,

moving network management to a decentralized smart contract-based system,
signing
routing advertisements and proof of transit, possibly including RPKI ROA’s in a
blockchain,
and how overlays, such as LISP, could provide intimacy between the application
layer and
network layer. A DLT in Networking side meeting occurred at IETF 113 and this

New Non-WG Mailing List: scitt

2022-03-03 Thread IETF Secretariat
A new IETF non-working group email list has been created.

List address: sc...@ietf.org
Archive: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/browse/scitt/
To subscribe: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/scitt

Purpose:
In the exchange of artifacts across end-to-end supply chains, it is
often the case that receiving entities require evidence to verify
the suitability of artifacts for an intended use. Key questions are
how the authenticity of entities, evidence, policy and artifacts can
be assured and how the evidence provided by entities can be
guaranteed to be authorized, transparent, immutable and auditable.

The Supply Chain Integrity, Transparency, and Trust (SCITT) mailing
list is a place to present, exchange, and discuss common practice,
emerging mechanisms, and converging terminology in the domain of
SCITT. This includes pointers to state-of-the art documents,
leveraging existing IETF work, or requests for public review.

This list belongs IETF area: SEC
