Since you're going to use Qt, you might as well replace Turbo IDE with
Qt Creator, rather than Netbeans (if you are referring to the Turbo
C++ IDE from Borland)

Hi All,

 I'm happy to inform you that *Mar Baselios College of Engineering and

CS and IT labs completely to GNU/Linux. They have contacted FSUG-TVM for
technical expertise on the subject, they are conducting a seminar on the 9th
of November 2009 on "FOSS and Technical Education" for Faculties and
Technical Staff of the college. The seminar will focus on identifying
Free/Open software replacements available over the current proprietary
softwares used in the Institution and the steps needed to switch without a
hitch. The program is open for all the Lectures/Professors/Lab Assistant of
other colleges in the similar field. Details of the seminar follows:

Resource Persons:
1.) FOSS Concept and Philosophy:- Dr. V. Sasi Kumar, Former Scientist,
Centre for Earth Science Studies; FSF-India Director Board Member

2.) FOSS in Academics:- Ashik Salahudeen, Web Developer, FSUG-TVM Member

3.) FOSS Transition Strategy and Adaptation in the Institution :- Anoop
Jacob Thomas, Lecturer MBCET

 The choice of Distribution will be Ubuntu for computer labs/Office and
Linux Mint for students. The seminar will handle all the lab syllabus
replacements in the Engg stream of CS&IT right from S3 to S8 with live
demonstration. List of replacements are as follows:

1.) C programming, Data Structures, Object Oriented Programming, System
Software, Internet Lab, Algorithm Design and Graphics, Operating Systems and
Networks :: *Current *:> Turbo IDE *Replacement *:> Netbeans

2.) Database Lab :: *Current *:> VB + Oracle   *Replacement *:> QT +
PostgreSQL

3.) Web Application Lab :: *Current *:> JSP, MS Access *Replacement *:> MS
Base/Sqlite

Some selected lab exercises say 5 from each Semester written in Turbo IDE as
per the lab syllabus will be rewritten for Netbeans.

Who could attend : Lectures/Professors/Lab Assistant in same domain
When and Where : 09.00am to 12:30pm, Monday, 9th of November 2009 at MBCET,

[fsug-tvm] Re: Advantages of Python

2009-11-04 Thread Shino Jacob

Do you mean that your program did not finish and ate up all the CPU
time? Isn't that normal (unless you have a multi processor system and
the OS shares the load)?
Anyway, try the same program in C or C++ on the same machine and see how
that goes.

A 1 billion iteration completed using a java program in around 4.5 seconds.
I should have mentioned it in the first posting itself.

In my experience user space code can bring down the entire OS,
(Solaris on sparc to be specific.)

below given is the code in python, I dont have the guts to run it one
more time.
k=0
for x in range(1,1):
k =k+1;

Not sure it this is a problem code. I am no python programmer.

Personally, I dont like python's Indentation stuff.May be its purpose
was to force developers to put Indentation, so as to write more
readable code.

I guess you are right. A while(1){} occasionally peaks only 80% CPU of
my single processor system. The system is still responsive enough.
But is the vanilla 2.6 kernel truly pre-emptible? I remember reading
about a PREEMPT_RT patch to make the kernel pre-emptible.

system - even on a single processor. Is it really possible for a

Can anyone among us ready to take up this work? You have to first

[fsug-tvm] Re: Advantages of Python

2009-11-04 Thread Shino Jacob

Java is slow compared to python
and it is less verbose

I dont know how he arrived on this conclusion.

I am not really sure, if I should learn python or not, tried , not
very difficult though.
with pydev(an eclipse plugin for python), its easy.
I did a iteration test to 1000 using for loop, and I had to
restart , cold boot ,my system.
I am not sure it I have done something wrong, but upto 10 it was
fine in python. even tried after compiling the source.
