Re: [fsug-tvm] Android Users Group

2012-04-28 Thread NADIR KM
Hi sir,
I will suggest u to install and use onavo. Its available in android market.
Its a very cool app which will give u a clear idea about all the traffic
going out and coming to your phone. It can give u application specific
report. So that u can find which app is hogging ur data and bw. And then
later restrict it to wifi or block it.

I think this will help u , because deactivating data traffic may not be
ultimate solution always, as we may need for many apps , especially in a
smartphone.

I think it is android 2.2, check whether there is an option in accounts and
sync to stop background data usage (It is there in 2.3, am not sure about
2.2).

In case you want to monitor data usage you can use Onavo Count (
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.onavo.android.onavoid).

Thank you, Yadhuram. My phone is a Motorola MB525 model. I think,
possibly they have modified Android. Anyway, I don't see a packet data
option in my Mobile Network menu.

My System version says: Moto_version.34.3601.1.MB525.Retail.en.ME2

Have no idea what it means. But it looks like it is customised for
Motorola, and specifically for this phone. So, possibly a lot of
changes. Guess the only option is to uninstall all applications that can
possibly use the Net, though I wouldn't want to do that if I could avoid
it. Maybe, that means I will have to pay for it.

Thank you, Athul, I will certainly raise my questions in this forum when
I get a doubt. All the same, I thought that it would be interesting to
read the correspondence in an Android forum if there is one. But glad to
know that there are people here who are familiar with the system. It was
only a few months back that I got an Android phone, so I didn't have
much interest in it till recently.

Let me ask a question all the same. Today, after I completed a phone
call that came from abroad, I found that more than 200 rupees had been
cut from my balance. Thinking that they had started charging for
incoming calls, I called the Customer Service and they told me that I
had used the Internet to the extent of 19.5 MB, which caused the charge
because I didn't have a GPRS scheme. The thing is that I had not
consciously used the Internet for any purpose. I think the usage was
caused by background usage by applications such as Latitude or some
such. Now, I would like to know how I can prevent this. I also get
frequent messages saying the last call cost something like Re. 0.10 or
so, though the call time shows 0 minute. I think this also is due to
background downloads and is causing unnecessary wastage of money.
