Not sure what you mean by copy-protected, but the Video DownloadHelper extension https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006 for Firefox will help you download videos from a number of sites. Download Helper has an option to copy the URL, which you can then feed to a download accelerator like DownThemAll (another firefox addon). This is helpful if you are downloading large files. I was working for a company (in the power division) where they sell IBM, SUN, HP, and Lenovo. But even at office (where at bangalore around 200 people used to work), havent seen anyone using linux. every system will be preinstalled with XP. I have seen our support engineers using Solaris 10 (Sun support). Why I am telliing all these, I dont think we can blame anyone - for not seeing Linux. Though I am fully satisfied with Ubuntu, I could not install them at my office, where my HO people are shouting - since they cannot support for Ubuntu. I have installed 9.04 9.10 in my own laptop. I know there is a LUG in chennai, and if organisation like that gives us more about customising others for Ubuntu, we shall help more people, outside this Linux group. I know you all are very very good in linux. whereas we do not know more than just customising. I do not blame you all at all Instead, on saturdays sundays, IF POSSIBLE, can anyone give us basic knowledge of customising certain aspects of Ubuntu, in chennai. I can / others too can organise for such ones. Just meet for max. 2 to 3 hours ( No parties etc - just Gyan). we will meet informally. I feel that people who are outside the regular Linux group (like you all) can only lure the people who are using Windows. If you all tell that 9.10 is better than windows XP or 7, they will say you are all experienced and can do all that is required. In short : give us A LITTLE MORE of what you all know. The adsl modems have ethernet port. You cannot terminate two DSL modems together, you need a DSLAM on the other end of your DSL line. Instead DSL providers offer IP VPN -- which is a type of DSL connection without internet access, but for connecting several branch offices at low cost. This typically costs no more than a regular DSL connection. Think of it as poor man's MPLS cloud. Airtel offers IP VPN. Or ask your telco operator for a leased line, and get them to loop it at the exchange. This works only if both your end points are at the same telephone exchange. What you end up getting is essentially a private copper connection. You can then use any leased line modem and get up to 16Mb/s speeds. BSN offers this setup, but don't tell them you are using 16Mb/s modems! There are 3rd party providers in Chennai (assuming you're in Chennai) who can provide you point-to-point multi-mode fiber connectivity. You can terminate both ends on to a suitable GBIC module and port on a Ethernet switch. Since this is private fiber, you can run up to 10Gb/s on this link. I've never used these myself, so no first hand experience to talk about. Note that you cannot run your own cables through public property without a telco or ISP license. Therefore any suggestions on running your own Ethernet/serial/etc cable, is legal only if it's within your own private property or campus. - Raja ___ To unsubscribe, email ilugc-requ...@ae.iitm.ac.in with unsubscribe password address in the subject or body of the message. http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
