[ilugd] How to make a linux server

2004-04-08 Thread Ejain
Hi friends
I am thinking of starting up a new business in which I am hoping to give only good
quality LINUX webspace at cheaper rates.
Please if anyone of you can tell me exactly what are the things that I will require to
start up eg. which processor etc. and which linux version.
I am new to all this.
Please if anyone of you could comment on the business that would be helpful.
Also please anyone of you could tell me what will be the approximate cost for starting
up it would be very helpful.
Thanks
Abhishek jain

[ilugd] Problem still not solved

2004-01-19 Thread Ejain
Hi Arvind
I have tried what you said regarding the bootloader problem.
But the problem is as it is.
All the steps runs successfully except when I tried to run the last step ie.
grub -install /dev/hda it gives the error that the option --install is
wrong. if I run grub - install (ie. with a space between - and install )then
a new screen comes with prompt as grub
Please tell me what must I do.
I shall be very grateful

Please solve the problem its is needed
 Dear Gyandev,
Configure the bios to boot up from a cd- you need to press del or ctrl
while the bios details are coming up.
Then insert the red hat or linux cd and choose linux rescue.
When you enter into the rescue mode
 type -chroot /mnt/sysimage
then change to the following folder using-cd /boot/grub
 then type -grub-install /dev/hda

 This works in RHL9.
Should restore the grub to the MBR.
 Regards,
 Dr ARvind Sinha

That would be good to have a programmers meet where in

the sessions could be divided as follow
1 an Intro to GUI(Application) programming on Linux
 - perl
 -python
 - java
 - GTK+/QT
 -ruby
-TCL/TK and the list goes on and on .

2 an intro to system programing in Linux
 - embedded Linux
 - Network programming
 - shell scripting
 - mastering C/C++ fundas etc...

but this would in turn make it more of training institute so only pointers
should be discussed untill somebody has a personal experience that he
would
 like others to know

looking forward to a programmers meet this time

 cheers

Re: [ilugd] help on grub

2004-01-06 Thread Ejain
Hi sachin here are a few tips about reloading grub,
Configure the bios to boot up from a cd- you need to press del or ctrl
while the bios details are coming up.
Then insert the red hat or linux cd and choose linux rescue.
When you enter into the rescue mode
type -chroot /mnt/sysimage
then change to the following folder using-cd /boot/grub
then type -grub-install /dev/hda

It works on Linux 9.0
In case of further difficulty do contact us.
