You should've chosen 'smarthost' (or similar) instead. But no
problems, just add proper relayhost, and other stuff discussed
here.

All the best :) .

If you're getting the above error message, then I'm sorry you're
testing the wrong way. Your box is won't be accepting mails for
gmail.com unless you've listed gmail.com in $mydestination,
$virtual_mailbox_domains, etc. So, please verify this properly. And
you can also do following things:

o Check out SMTPD_ACCESS_README[1] in Postfix documentation[2].
o And better, start from scratch, reinstall Postfix with a clean
configuration.

The configuration for gmail.com is not much different from other
smarthosts, except that they require you to authenticate yourself on
TLS connection before relaying mail.

Above file is okay, but make sure, file is processed by postmap(5).

Above file is also fine, and it also need to be processed by postmap(5).

>
>3. /etc/postfix transport

This is wrong, unless you want to tell postfix that mails to all @gmail.com
users should be sent (not _relayed_ via) to the SMTP server smtp.gmail.com. Use
'relay' transport instead of 'smtp' transport. But even this won't relay mails
via smtp.gmail.com if mail is destined to non @gmail.com address.

Well, above can also be implemented using 'relayhost' variable in main.cf.
And don't use transport_maps, unless, you really need them.

- >8>8
mydestination=$myhostname,localhost.$mydomain,localhost,localhost.localdomain
relayhost=[smtp.gmail.com]
smtp_use_tls=yes
smtp_tls_per_site=hash:/etc/postfix/tls_per_site

smtp_sasl_auth_enable=yes
smtp_sasl_password_maps=hash:/etc/postfix/sasl/sasl_passwd
relay_domains=
- >8>8

And this configuration is tested on Fedora, Ubuntu, and Gentoo GNU/Linux +
FreeBSD with minor changes related to path names. On Gentoo GNU/Linux and
FreeBSD I've installed from source. cacert.pem is the one which is shipped with
Mozilla Firefox.

I have been doing the same, too, quite successfully. What is the error
when you try port 25?

Yes, it's his hostname.

That could be the problem. Did you try Troubleshooting on the same page
---xxx---
openssl s_client -starttls smtp -CApath /usr/share/ssl/certs/ -connect
smtp.gmail.com:25
---xxx---
See if the above comand, and what does it return? Possibly you do need
to set certificates properly to go ahead as tls for smtpd, as per the
configuration shown there.
---xxx---
 smtp_use_tls = yes

I'm also using similar configuration since 1.8 years using Gmail's SMTP as
mail relay for my local Postfix. And instead of using SMTPS port which is
SMTP-over-SSL, I'm using smtp.gmail.com:25, which is a plain-text SMTP.
Ofcourse
my postfix then switches to TLS.

So the issue is Postfix expecting plain-text SMTP.

I've followed Gmail + Postfix + Fetchmail HOWTO[1]. Though my configuration is
somewhat different from what is mentioned in the HOWTO.

[ilugd] Relaying mail in posrtfix

2008-09-02 Thread Sahil Dave
hi..

i was just trying to configure postfix on my PC and have chosen gmail's smtp
server to relay my mails to the world. i need to do this because i don't
have a domain name + my WAN ip is dynamic. so, using gmail wont treat my
mails as spam.
i have set
relayhost = smtp.gmail.com:465 in 'main.cf'

when i try to send a test mail to my gmail acct. the following is logged.

Sep  3 00:50:24 localhost postfix/smtp[4258]: 0348D27578: to=<
[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, relay=smtp.gmail.com[209.85.143.109]:465,
delay=657, delays=56/0.01/601/0, dsn=4.4.2, status=deferred (conversation
with smtp.gmail.com[209.85.143.109] timed out while receiving the initial
server greeting)

do i need to specify my WAN ip in main.cf, or is there some other issue?
