RE: [ilugd] SUSE cd's needed
My impression is that commercial distributions like Mandrake, Suse, etc. contained material that cannot be distributed free, i.e. in addition to GPL'ed stuff they also distribute commercial stuff. However, if you download a distribution from their website for free, then that may be redistributable under the GPL. So, if I buy a copy of Suse from a store with the DVD and all that and make copies to hand out, I am probably breaking some license agreement. However, if I download a distributable version from a website and then make copies of it, I should be ok. I remember this discussion many years earlier at another Linux user group, where I had asked for the legalities of doing such a thing. I have been under the above impression till now. If someone has more clarity on this, please let me know. -venkat -Original Message- From: shshank jain [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, February 03, 2004 4:05 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [ilugd] SUSE cd's needed hiii anand i thought Linux is free .where does the question of legality comes into it?? is SUSE any different from Redhat or Mandrake.was the exchange of cd's at the meeting in faridabad illegal?? bye _ Contact brides grooms FREE! http://www.shaadi.com/ptnr.php?ptnr=hmltag Only on www.shaadi.com.
