If that hangs your system then there probably is a hardware problem. Cant imagine any thing new has happened in Floppy drive technology which could kill Linux. Does eject work on your CD Drive ?? [ilugd]: Re: how do I mount an extra drive and read it's contents
When I try the mount command it says cannot find /dev//hdb1 in /etc/fstab and /etc.mtab fstab is the file that tells the OS where to mount what partition mtab is the file that tells you what is currently mounted My second problem as of now is that I tried to reconfigure my Apache conf file so that it accepts a virtual server but to no avail. Can I send you both files so thatyou could solve my problem ? This requires quite a lot of explanation. So instead im going to forward you to the right document. http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/vhosts/examples.html I am not going to email you my configuration files not because Im mean or anythign like that but because I feel that Linux can only be learned by trial and error. Spoon feeding is not the answer. Learn to research and read faq's. Thats the best way. good luck, Vijay Avarachen To mount a partition you neet to know its filesystem type (ext3 in most recent distros such as redhat, mandrake etc). A quick glace at man fstab might help you. Here is a example on how to mount something via fstab LABEL MOUNT POINT FILESYSTEM TYPE PARAMETERS DUMP/FSCK /dev/hdb1 /mountpoint ext3 defaults 0 0 Prithu Nath wrote: Dear Vijay, Thanks for explaining things so well. I have at present two problems as I am new to Linux and trying to get things moving. Unfortunately no good training sources here in India as of now although everyone is talking Linux. Maybe you can think of opening something atleast an online training system if interested. My problems :- 1. Second HDD is on the same machine is an IDE not a scsi and is a Primary slave. It has two partitions. When I try the mount command it says cannot find /dev//hdb1 in /etc/fstab and /etc.mtab I read the contents of the fstab but could not figure out what to add where ? 2. My second problem as of now is that I tried to reconfigure my Apache conf file so that it accepts a virtual server but to no avail. Can I send you both files so thatyou could solve my problem ? Thanks a lot. Prithu --

Is there any plan to get the rest of the site backend code available for public in the true spirit of open source? ;) Nishi The source is indeed open in its true spirits. Making it Nishi available is what needs to be done. Mithun suggested Nishi putting it on CVS server but I guess, I am going to need Nishi some help in having that set up. savannah.nongnu.org would take it like a shot. Takes less than a day to create an account and get a project approved there. -- Raju -- Raju Mathur [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://kandalaya.org/ It is the mind that moves To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe in subject header. [ilugd]: TOI editorial plugs Linux
['Ware -- crossposting] Today's TOI has a editorial piece on Microsoft that mentions Linux quite favourably. excerpt [that] could open one more front in Microsoft's ongoing war against Linux, a free, open-source operating system. Mr Gates has been dismissive of Linux, but other commentators are not so sanguine. As the Economist recently noted, Linux has limited the progress of Windows in the server market, as governments and big firms have found it to be not only less costly but more flexible and more secure. While Mr Gates was still in India, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh announced that all of MP government's schemes would use Linux software. In Mr Singh's words, it was not a question of Microsoft versus Linux but of choosing between free software and a monopoly. /excerpt http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/cms.dll/html/uncomp/articleshow?artid=28993247 Glad to see that Linux is being touted for openness and not just price by the mainstream press too. -- Raju -- Raju Mathur [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://kandalaya.org/ It is the mind that moves To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe in subject header.
