[ilugd]: sound output problem

2002-10-23 Thread LinuxLingam
hi,

on a redhat linux 7.2 machine, i've noticed a peculiar problem.

during the fresh installation ages ago, the sound quality from the built-in
card was quite good, with the audio cd players, as well as xmms, while
playing mp3.
contrasted against winXX, the quality was better.

however, lately, the sound totally died out. no sound from speakers. so
opened aumix, and pushed everything up to max. the sound re-emerged. but the
quality of sound is poor, and the volume of sound is too low. pushed up the
sound on the speakers to max, and even then the volume is too low.

checking it under win, discovered the sound from the speakers was loud and
excellent, on the same file.

what am i doing wrong? how do i fix this?

thanks in advance.

On an i810 m/c, my experience has shown that sound quality improves a lot
if I install the alsa-drivers. On my home athlon via chipset(asus mobo)
there was no difference on 7.1+
