[indiana-discuss] OpenSolaris development package repository update (build 105)
The OpenSolaris development package repository http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev/ has been updated to reflect the changes in snv_105 as well as fixes to the Image Packaging System (IPS). Additional hardware support is available for the NetXen 1Gb/10Gb Ethernet and Ralink RT2501/RT2601/RT73USB 802.11b/g Wireless devices. Users who wish to update their system to the development build can do so by setting their preferred authority to the above URL and using the image-update facility provided by the pkg(1) command or by the Update All facility of the Package Manager GUI. IMPORTANT NOTE: The development builds have undergone limited testing and users should expect to uncover issues as the next release is developed. Bug reports and requests for enhancement are welcome through http://defect.opensolaris.org/ ISO images are not available for this build. Re: [indiana-discuss] Tecra M2 Graphics won't work with an external VGA monitor
Can anyone help on this? I've tried pretty much everything I can think of to get this to work on an external vga monitor. I'd really like to stay on OSOL, but can't unless I can get this working! -- This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ indiana-discuss mailing list indiana-discuss@opensolaris.org http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/indiana-discuss

I'd really like to stay on OSOL, but can't unless I can get this working! You'll probably get more help from the desktop-discuss list with this question. You may want to post there. Generally speaking, in the most recent builds things just work. If you have an NVidia chipset, you'll need to use the control panel for it to detect the external display, then set up the X configuration you want. Some configurations (for instance, multi-monitor), may require you to save the xorg.conf to /etc/X11 then log out and back in. There have been some systems with buggy edid reporting that require specific modifications to the xorg.conf. If you find you cannot do it with the built in desktop control panels (either the NVidia or the regular Gnome screen settings), then these may help: http://blogs.sun.com/mingenthron/entry/xorg_with_nvidia_geforce_go http://blogs.sun.com/ashu/entry/two_ways_of_connecting_a http://blogs.sun.com/chrisg/entry/xorg_conf_for_toshiba_tecra Regards, - Matt -- Matt Ingenthron http://blogs.sun.com/mingenthron/ email: matt.ingenth...@sun.com ___ indiana-discuss mailing list indiana-discuss@opensolaris.org http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/indiana-discuss
Re: [indiana-discuss] unnessesary services?
Hi Rand, Collecting some OSOL services information is a good idea. We'll be in touch... Thanks for your interest! Cindy Rand All wrote: Cool, thanks, Cindy. So it seems the doc I'm envisioning, a nice, succinct description of what services do and which ones are needed for which computing roles/environments, doesn't exist. I think I'll look into writing something like that myself. ___ indiana-discuss mailing list indiana-discuss@opensolaris.org http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/indiana-discuss
[indiana-discuss] Thunderbird 2.0.0.18 in Build105
Hi, I just upgraded to Build105 with packagemanager. Now I miss the + and - sign in thunderbird to expand or collapse email folders. Does anyone seeing this too ? And how to get them back. In this way thunderbird is not usable for me. Detlef ___ indiana-discuss mailing list indiana-discuss@opensolaris.org http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/indiana-discuss
Re: [indiana-discuss] Thunderbird 2.0.0.18 in Build105
Detlef: I ran into the same problem a while back. I understand that is a known problem with Thunderbird, caused by a bug introduced by the upgrade to the new Sun Studio 12 comnpiler. I believe this was fixed in build 106. It is a frustrating bug, I think Thunderbird is fairly useless with this bug. You probably need to upgrade to newer Thunderbird packages, or downgrade to older ones. Though I'm not sure where to point you get those. Brian I just upgraded to Build105 with packagemanager. Re: [indiana-discuss] Purpose of Recent Update?
Before I file a bug report, a couple of quick additional info: 1. I have tested three versions of 2008.11: RC2 (101b), 2008.11 (official release), and 2008.11+update. 2. I do not have either of the aforementioned problems with (the pre-official release) RC2. 3. With both 2008.11 and 2008.11+update, /usr/sbin is not in the PATH when invoking pfexec. 4. With both 2008.11 and 2008.11+update, I couldn't configure wireless connection (couldn't enter WPA password, which was grayed out). 5. With 2008.11+update, I couldn't even get wired connection. 6. I have seen the same problem both on bare metal and in VBox. The above-listed problems are solved by an image-update to build 105 in the /dev repository. Thanks a whole bunch! The switch b/t wired and wireless connection seems to be snappier than Vista. This is becoming incredible! -- This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ indiana-discuss mailing list indiana-discuss@opensolaris.org http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/indiana-discuss
