Though that bug is marked as an enhancement, it may not get fixed for
the next major release unless more people pushes for it.

 ( i don't know though , if that fix will include a 1:1 mapping )

 Hi,
for us poor gnu converts and bash users it would be *extremely
pleasant* having a 1:1 mapping between keyboard and action, as we've
been accustomed to have in the last 15 years of linux ;) , even in an
 ssh session.
For example having the DEL key deleting the character under the
cursor, rather than having a ~ written in the terminal, would be a
liberation from the torture of goddam old-style /bin/sh lack of
 bindings.

Every time I install OS I have to copy my Suse's /etc/inputrc to
Opensolaris. May I ask why don't you include this file? After all the
 default shell is now bash.
Can you add it to the distribution, please?.

Please file an RFE at http://defect.opensolaris.org/

 Cheers,

No use arguing too much about semantics here; Indiana is already
embracing the bulk embodyment of GNU style behavoir in many ways,
down to software and up through desktop frameworks.

and in any case (I'f I'm not mistaken) the only shell that
uses /etc/inputrc is bash, so there's really nothing to break, surely
not /bin/sh
