Randia can be possible, but then it should have opposite leaves, which I
don't see in this photograph. Being a botanist doing research, I think
Suresh ji should see whether leaves are alternate (Prunus) or opposite
(Randia), also by section of fruit he can easily differentiate it. We
suggest you Suresh ji, not to rush through identifications. Do send us some
good data concerning each plant that you upload.

Re: [efloraofindia:91234] Re: Which is Perilla frutescens?

2011-11-02 Thread Gurcharan Singh
Thanks Pankaj ji
Our Dakpathar plant had much broader lower leaves, it grew to more than 2 m
and apex was suddenly contracted into a tail like inflorescence, which as
you can see is with long white hairs on axis and flowers not really
distichous, some what evently distributed.

Our near Kalsi plant is much shorter with shorter with short compact
inflorescence with clearly distichous flowers, also the axis is not long
hairy. This plant rather resembles illustration on eFlora of Pakistan more.

Let us see some more views

2011-11-02 Thread Nambiyath Balakrishnan
Dr. Gurcharan Singh is correct. It is a *Lepidium*. There are three species
of Lepidium reported from Tamil Nadu, *L. ruderale* L. (Roadside Pepper
cress), *L. sativum* L. (Garden cress) and *L. virginicum *L. (Virginian
Pepper cress). The other species are North Indian and Himalayan. The exact
identification can be done only by examining fresh plants and floral parts.

resembles the purse used by European shepherds in ancient times. The plant
occurs as a weed in cool temperate Himalayas and Nilgiri mountains of S.
