Tripathi hemanthtripa...@gmail.com wrote: Dear Friends, This may of interest to you all… ...imperishable spark of the perishable mind. INDIA’S FIRST NATIONAL BEE DAY January 31, 2012 On Sunday, February 5th, Under The Mango Tree will be hosting India’s first annual National Bee Day at Maharashtra Nature Park, Dharavi. The mission is to spread awareness among both children and adults about the importance of bees in our ecosystem and the environment. The entire event will be family oriented and is free of charge. There will be two feature events: a Panel Discussion on ‘Role of Bees in Pollination’, and a cooking with honey demonstration. The panel discussion will be moderated by Vikram Doctor of the Economic Times and will be preceded by the release of UTMT’s study on the importance of pollination for small farmers in agriculture. Cooking with Honey demonstration, sponsored by Bungalow 9 and hosted by Bungalow 9’s Executive Chef Rajiv Basak and MasterChef India’s Rajat Nagpal, will give audience members the chance to learn and taste unique recipes using honey. Most people know that bees work hard to bring us honey, but even more crucial is their role in supporting biodiversity and food production. As bees are responsible for bringing to the table four out of five foods we eat – fruits, vegetables, oilseeds, pulses -our honeybees have a tremendous impact on the food available to each of us. National Bee Day spreads awareness about India’s indigenous bee – Apis cerana indica – which is an excellent pollinator. Under The Mango Tree is a social enterprise that promotes beekeeping with the indigenous bee Apis cerana indica to increase agricultural productivity, enhance incomes and improve livelihoods of marginal farmers in India. The event will kick off at 9 AM and last until 2 PM. Activities include programs for both children and adults. Each schedule is as follows: Children’s Activities: Ongoing – Poster painting competition, crafts, games, bee photo-shoot, face painting 9:30AM – Children’s Bee Walk 10:00AM – Special movie screening (in Hindi) 11:00AM – Children’s Bee Walk 12:00PM – Bee quiz 12:30PM – Children’s Bee Walk 1:30PM – Judging of painting competition Adult’s Activities: Ongoing – Food stalls – Gostana Cafe and Women’s Self Help Group, hourly bee walks 9:30AM – QA with Mumbai’s first urban beekeepers 10:30AM – Release of Study by Mrs Usha Thorat Panel Discussion on Role of Bees in Pollination– moderated by Vikram Doctor 12:00PM – Cooking with Honey, featuring Rajiv Basak, Executive Chef and owner of Bungalow 9, and Rajat Nagpal from MasterChef India Media Contact: Emily Paarmann em...@underthemangotree.org Work: +91-22-65157953 / Cell: 9819811951 For Public Inquiries: mumbaib...@underthemangotree.org +91-22-65157953

Re: [efloraofindia:106042] Ficus and Barbets
Very interesting thought. Different species of Ficus flower and fruit in different time and season. Further, the same individual of some species of Ficus may flower and fruit more than once in an year. Yes Barbets are fond of Ficus fruits I have seen most of the Barbets (Small green, Coppersmith and Malabar) are seen in Ficus trees when they are with fruits. I have seen lots of Coppersmith barbets on *Ficus amplissima *when it had ripened fruits.
