Re: [efloraofindia:165753] Re: Orchidaceae Fortnight: October 1 to 14, 2013, the Mega episode-Coordinator Dr. Pankaj Kumar
Thanks Pankaj ji Very good introduction. It is more than clear. I hope we all will try to represent to your expectation Dr Satish Phadke On 17 September 2013 07:21, Dr Pankaj Kumar sahanipan...@gmail.com wrote: Respected Sirs and dear friends Thanks a lot for allowing me to coordinate this episode and I hope I can match up to your expectations. I will request you to feel free to post whatever orchid pics you have but please remember, 1. MULTIPLE PICS FROM MULTIPLE ANGLES help a lot in better identification. 2. Taxonomy is an opinion and anyone can go wrong including me :) so dont fight if I have to correct your id and feel free to correct my id too. 3. Kindly add a proper and standardized subject line with family name as well as the species name. If the species id is requested then please mention unique numbers on the species name as following: WHEN YOU KNOW THE SPECIES: Orchidaceae Fortnight: Habenaria longicorniculata J.Graham or Orchidaceae Fortnight: Habenaria longicorniculata. WHEN YOU DONT KNOW THE SPECIES: Orchidaceae Fortnight: for ID PK12062 4. Please mention the locality and date for each species, it helps in correct ID. But trust me, even with both sometimes its difficult to id. Even if the plants are identified it will be a good idea to add localities. 5. There is possibility that I might miss to check all mails. Just in case you realise that you plant is not identified then please forward me again. In general if you want a quick id then you can think of sending CC of your mail to me on the first go itself. 6. If I dont reply to a mail, then it doesnt mean that I have differences with the sender or the mail was not nice. Just that due to lack of time, I will put in my comments when and where it is needed and when and where it is asked. All pics are nice and they come out the way you want them to look like. A good looking pic may not be a good pic botanically and it may get difficult to id too. Secondly, to me all plants and all photographs are important but still even after viewing the pics I may not have time to comment. SO PLEASE DONT MIND and PLEASE DONT ASSUME THINGS ON YOUR OWN. FEEL FREE TO ASK ME AGAIN :). 7. I will try to repost some pics from archives. These will have representative of the subfamily or genera. I will try to provide original details with the name of original owners of the pics. Hope that will be ok for all. I will also try to post pics from otuside India but in that case I will do it for a reason and I will mention it on the subject line. I assume you all can do the same too. 8. I would request all members to collaborate and coordinate the episode as they have done in past. All your comments are valuable. 9. What makes this group more wonderful is the fact that sitting on my desk in Hong Kong, I can know which orchid is flowering in which area of India and how does the plant look like. 10. I AM NOT HERE TO TEACH OR PREACH BUT TO LEARN MYSELF. 11. Comments and suggestions from all members are always welcome. If you have any better ideas of how to organise this episode then please feel free to share. Make it a grand event but at the same times make it a easy for all to understand event. Gurucharan sir, your one correct id of Spiranthes is more than enough :) so please dont worry. I can show you manuscripts in high profile journals which have wrong names for Spiranthes :). Your comments and suggestions are always welcome. Best regards Pankaj On Monday, 16 September 2013 13:58:20 UTC+8, Gurcharan Singh wrote: Dear friends Our next episode, I am sure would be the most exciting one covering Orchidaceae, one of the most fascinating groups of plants, and very well represented in India. I realize Pankaj ji is very busy in his research, but I am sure he will extract some time to lead the discussions during the uploads. I am very sure there are several other members deeply interested and having good collection of Orchidaceae members. I request them to help Pankaj ji to make this episode a very memorable one.
