Re: [efloraofindia:309721] Aristea ecklonii

2018-11-04 Thread Mohina Macker
Dear Usha di,

I did see the EFL page

and understood that this is not native to India or the Nilgiris
but I don't think it must have been planted at Eravikulam, looked quite
wild and at home
it was at the edge of the area beyond which tourists are not allowed to go
any further
i wonder what the explanation for this might be
maybe flying seeds, or shoes of tourists or the forest workforce

regards
mohina

but seems people plant them
we have a page

where both examples were planted.

nice crisp image, esp the closer pic of flower.

Aarti
that would be great

has the Atlanta botanical garden matured by now since its inception some in
the 1970s.
when i went in 78 or 79 it was still very young, and most of the space
taken up by
gimmicky topiary and water park like arrangements. i guess it was necessary
to do that in order
to attract visitors while the plantings matured and the figured out what
works for their micro climate.
we realized then that to see anything worthwhile we would have to come back
in 20+ years.
i hope you got to see mature plantings properly labelled and the green
house full of well tended orchids and tropicals.

¿ *Enneapogon persicus* ?
Dear friends,
I am aware that ID of grass cannot be attempted with photos alone; yet I am
posting few photos with the hope that it can be identified at least to
genus level, based on distribution and general appearance. The posted grass
was growing in some patches of the park.

terminal panicles.
Mahadeswara ji, unfortunately I have no picture of trunk / bark. But I do
recollect it was silver grey.
I would go with *Acacia leucophloea*.

2018-11-04 Thread mayur nandikar
Dear Sevvel ji,
Leaf surface hairs vary, especially in *Commelina*. You can confirm with
the capsule and seed characters.
I believe this is possibly *C. ensifolia*. Do confirm.
