[efloraofindia:424584] Re: Ms. Sheila: 1st Runner up Star Expert of May’ 2022

2022-06-02 Thread Plantaholic Sheila.
Dear sir,
Thank you.
How very kind!
I am just so embarrassed.
I feel so ignorant compared to so many others here.
But every day is a school day...I try to keep learning.

When I was younger I spent every minute creating a garden from a
wilderness.with little knowledge about plants.
It was a steep learning curve.
In 2005 I got a tiny point and shoot Canon Ixus camera.
It literally changed my life.
On my pics I was able to see details of the flowers...far more detail than
with my own eyes...very slowly I learnt .

I now have a library of 78,000 detailed plant pics on Picasa and
flickr...all labelled with Latin names so I can find them.
Many are not very pretty, they look boring just showing a stem ..to
show if leaves are opposite or alternate. The front and back of leaves.etc
They help jog my memory. Free for anyone to find/ to see./use

Now much older I can no longer spend 8 /10 hours a day gardening.
But I can sit at my computer and look at plants on the internet forums and
MAYBE help to id them.

Re: [efloraofindia:424575] I'd of Impatiens from Sikkim

2022-06-02 Thread Gurcharan Singh
I. jurpia and I. cathcartii although typically differentiated by absence of
spur on Standard (I. cathcartii) and distinct spur (I. jurpia), but both
species show variation from gibbous condition to distinct spur. The only
feature seeming to be fixed is glabrous leaves and stem in I. cathcartii
and hairy in I. jurpia. By that count it looks I. cathcartii.

 Dear members,
Sh. Saroj Kumar Kasaju is the Star Expert of last month (with 921
 messages )
with his beautiful uploads & interactions.
He is now not only among the top posters but also among the top most in
helping other members in their identifications as he looks after each and
every post and gives his valuable inputs.
His postings in the last month were mainly from West and Central Nepal
(areas still deficient in efi) which included many new additions to
 efloraofindia and UK.
The quality of his uploads is also super, showing almost all aspects of
a plant with very high resolution images, along with wonderful photography
and close up details. He has a great knowledge as far as Flora of the
 region is concerned.
He continued to mesmerise us this month also (like since July'16), for
which he has been consistently becoming Most Interactive Person/ Star
Expert every month. He has set a record by becoming the only person to
get Most Interactive Person/ Star Expert for the last 70 successive
months. He is also one of our Pillars
  and
has moved quickly at number 3 among top 10 all time posters

The expert in UK and holding the Plant Heritage /National collection is

[efloraofindia:424473] Pyrus (Rosaceae) page with comparative images

2022-06-02 Thread J.M. Garg
Dear members,

Pl. go through‎ *Pyrus * (
*Rosaceae*) page with comparative images of species in efloraofindia. On
clicking the link of species, one can check the complete details. Genus
pages generally give details of most of the species found in India.

I request you to pl. go through & point out mistakes, if any. I hope this
will aid in identification in future. If anybody can send images of other
species of this genus (for incorporation in the website), if any, or can
identify unidentified images, it will be really nice.

J.M.Garg
