Hi,Am not sure about these google images. I always prefer tallying my specimens

Hi,
These plants seem to be Vigna khandalensis. The foliaceous stipules are evident
in the second image on which the identity is based. The leaflets are normally
lobed. The herbs are in vegetative state. Nevertheless the stipules help in
confirming the identity.

Re: [efloraofindia:226696] efloraofindia:''For Id'' wild plant with roundish leaves at Talegaon Dabhade :June 2015: MR-02

2015-06-30 Thread 'Adittya Dharap' via efloraofindia
Hi,
I have seen the detailed communication and I agree that the plant is too young
to identify. But knowing the area (Talegaon Dabhade) very well, I am sure that
this is Rivea laotica  (as pointed out by Ron Kushner R.ornata R. laotica are
treated as synonyms. but both the names are unresolved according to Plant List).
The Two Revia s occuring in Talegaon are Rivea hypocrateriformis R.laotica.
These two Rivea s clearly differ in habit, leaf size and shape inflorescence.
Following is the key from Flora of Maharashtra.
RIVEA Choisy

1. Woodyclimbers; peduncles usually 1.flowered;

corolla glabrousoutside .R. hypocrateriformis

1. Erectundershrubs or shrubs; peduncles usually 2.7.flowered;

corolla appressedly hairy onlyalong mid.petaline bands .. R. laotica

I will post the images of these two Rivea s revealing the these distinct
characters.
Regarding the synonyms and correct names for R.laotica R.ornata , I am not
the right person who can comment on.
best regards
Adittya Dharap

The plant in question seems to be I. linifolia. Apart from this the flowers are

This could be Sonneratia alba or S. caseolaris. The very visible difference

Hence the id cannot be conclusive.

Re: [efloraofindia:189173] 50th Tree Appreciation Walk on Mangrove at Bhandup Pumping Station on 25th May,14 at 7 am

2014-05-24 Thread 'Adittya Dharap' via efloraofindia
Hi,

Since you are planning to visit the Bhandup Mangroves, you may expect few more
that have not been included in your list:

1. The Bruguiera species in Bhandup mangroves isBruguiera cylindrica.
2. River mangrove i.e Aegiceras corniculatum is quite common in Bhandup
mangrove.
3. Aeluropus lagopoides Poaceae is the grass species that is abundantly found
in Mangroves.
4. Delve a little deeper, you may find another species of Sonneratia i.e.
S.alba which is found deeper in Bhandup and Vikhroli (Godrej) mangroves.
5. There is another species: Avicennia officinalis that is common as well in
this area. This can be differentiated from A. marina based on shape of leaves.

Mangroves are indeed amazing ! Have a nice time.

I can quiet understand your concerns on the identity of the species. It is
necessary to have broader look at each species.
Herbaceous Euphorbia species growing in wet habitats, particularly the
pycnostegia complex is very variable, depending on the ecological conditions,
where they grow. Hence we cannot fix hard and fast parameters on their
morphology. Each author describes them in different ways depending on their
ecological environment. It is nor advisable to describe each as a separate
variety, which would add only confusion and chaos; one has to take a broad
outlook on the phenotypic plasticity to each species. Only  a monographer, who
has studied a large number of herbarium specimens from various localities can
give a broad all-encompassing description.

Thank you so much for identifying this. But I have few doubts.
The description given by Fr. Santapau on E.pycnostegia var.zorniodes in Flora
of Khandala is as follows:

Very similar toE.pycnostegia from which it is separated by smooth,
non-tuberculate seeds. Leaves are opposite, but branches quite often are only
produced in the axil of one of them; size of leaves upto 55x17 mm

I had seen E.pycnostegia in field last year and it was an erect, stout 1 - 2
feet high plant.

While the plant in question is prostrate, small and spreading.
I
BSI Flora of Maharashtra has not included this var.zorniodes instead  mentions
E.zorniodes as a different species.
But the features given under this doesnt seem to match with my plant.

Dear All,

Would like to share images of beautiful Euphorbia fusiformis.

The inflorescence emerges before the leaves.

Amongst the usual  reddish flowers of E.fusiformis, there were flowers that
were yellow in colour. I guess they are also fusiformis and  this is just a
colour variation (similar to albino flowers we come across). But would like
to seek confirmation.

Yes R.mucronata since the corolla is hairy. In case of R.apiculata, the corolla
is glabrous.
The images are really nice showing all features.

Thank you for the possible id. Am convinced about Grewia sp. The thing going
against G.serrulata is the berries in G.serrulata are deeply 2 lobed. In this
case the berries are distinctly 4 lobed.
I guess I will have to wait for the flowers for the id to be conclusive.

2013-09-28 Thread Adittya Dharap
Dear Pra

Agree with you. This is E.lawii since the calyx is not winged.

The key is on calyx :

Calyx wingd : E.pumilium
 Calyx not wingd : E.lawii
