Re: [efloraofindia:233468] Re: TSPOCT2015-17: Images Spathoglottis plicata shared

2015-10-13 Thread Pankaj Kumar
Yes orchid seeds as they lack their own food, they need food from secondary
sources so they need fungi.
1. Fungi is very much specific of the habitat where they grow.
2. Orchid is very much specific of the fungi they link with and ofcourse
they are specific to habitat too.
So orchids are kind of more picky in choosing where to grow and hence they
are not so common in occurence in comparision to other plants. So to cope
with this issue, orchids produces millions of seeds in each capsule but the
survival rate is very low in wild. But please remember one plant if
produces 1 fruit in an year and 1 fruit gives millions of seeds and only 5
survives and grow to adult ITS PERFECTLY FINE FOR ORCHIDS, as there is
an increase in population and that is what each species in the world
wants.TO REPRODUCE !!!

Thanks Usha di.
This plant is endemic to northern Western Ghats (not sure of the exact
range) - naturally grows in wild.

NPGS / GRIN
lists some more states of India - Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa,
Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh ... friends from these states may validate
this distribution.

Dear friends,
Below are two sightings; but I strongly believe they are the same species
of *Crotalaria* based on their habit and habitat. Growing in scrub
vegetation with a tendency to grow gregariously, these have small flowers,
just about 10 ± 2 mm.
