The history of the file joe.java that you have been working on is in a file in the original repository. Do a cvs status joe.java and look on the line Repository revision:. It has the name of the repository file. It ends in the string /joe.java,v. Simply copy the joe.java,v file from the original repository into the correct place in the new repository. Wow! You're a quick study. You get an A. :-) % rm -rf cvs_repository/project_to_remove ? Would this mess up the rest of cvs_repository in any way? I assume that's $CVSROOT/project_to_remove. It depends. You might have a problem if project_to_remove is part of a module definition in $CVSROOT/CVSROOT/modules. The modules file is, I believe, the only place where CVS creates dependencies on top-level directories in $CVSROOT. Mentioning a non-existent module in the *info files in $CVSROOT/CVSROOT is benign. Of course, deleting a module from the repository means that it's no longer there (Duh!). Don't expect CVS operations in a checked out project_to_remove sandbox to work. Question regarding branch merges
I've got a branch that I've been keeping in line with the HEAD of the trunk by merging via : cvs update -d -j foottag -j HEAD in my branch sandbox, and then committing the results and moving the foottag on the trunk to the HEAD . This works great.. However - there is one issue I'm seeing.. New directories on the trunk (and any new files in them) do not get merged into my sandbox. New files in existing directories do, but new directories containing new files do not. Does anyone have any idea if this is a design limitation or a bug in cvs? Or am I just doing something wrong?
