Hi All,

Have a look at the attachment.

I have highlighted the 'binocular' button.

Note that after checking-out the module kernel, I will have
directories like:

  D:\gvaish\Projects\SF\FreeDos\kernel
  D:\gvaish\Projects\SF\FreeDos\kernel\boot
  D:\gvaish\Projects\SF\FreeDos\kernel\bin

You must login before checking out.

Step 0. Set all variable, specifically, CVSROOT Step 1. make a directory, say,
/home/me/projects/FreeDos Step 2. execute cvs login. When asked for password,
 simply press enter.
Step 3. execute cvs co freedos

Note that I've capitalized FreeDos just to demonstrate that FreeDos

Checkout module -- this information you should get from the
project-page. For freedos, one of the modules is kernel.

0. Go to http://sf.net/projects/freedos
1. Go to CVS
2. Click on Browse CVS

The first page that comes has a list of modules -- one module, by
default, would be CVSROOT!

Cheers,
Gaurav

Two more questions :

1) If cd /home/abc/mycvs_code is the general directory where I
have many sub directories, like /freedos, /freesomethingelse
etc. etc., which one do I browse to - to

cd/home/abc/mycvs_code/freedos

2) when I've set cd /home/abc/mycvs_code/freedos as the directory
(using the binocular) button, and then try -remote -checkout
module, I get a checkout settings tab
^^^

Here I've set the following :

Module name and path on server :
:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/freedos

Local Folder to checout to : /home/abc/mycvs_code/freedos

And when I press enter, I get :

---
cvs checkout: Empty password used - try 'cvs login' with a real password
cvs server: cannot find module
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/freedos' - ignored
cvs [checkout aborted]: cannot expand modules
* CVS exited normally with code 1 *
---

Where am I wrong ?

Thanks

 host  = cvs.sourceforge.net
 path  = /cvsroot/freedos

Open WinCVS and click the 'Binocular' button in the first toolbar. Now
'Browse to the folder' where you want to checkout.

[OT ?] *WIN*CVS setup questions

2004-08-18 Thread New Bie 123

Hi List

I am new to *Win*CVS. I've tried to subscribe to WinCVS at
yahoo groups, but not yet received approval.

Hence the post here

Hope this isn't totally OT

I've used command line CVS for downloading beta releases of some
projects like
http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=5109
http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=52835

I wish to setup Win CVS to regularly download changes to these and
other projects

I understand the concept of CVS and some of the basic commands as
explained in
http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=14033group_id=1

1) I've visited the following places before asking here
http://cvsgui.sourceforge.net/
http://www.wincvs.org/
http://www.wincvs.org/faq.html
http://www.thathost.com/wincvs-howto/

Being news to *Win*CVS, I have the following questions

2) What are the WinCVS preferences that I should set up to update
/ checkout changes to
http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=52835

3) When I setup Win CVS, what's the recommended CVS Root Data
- Path
- Host address (IP / DNS name)
- Username
- CVS root

4) Is there a quick start for newcommers to WinCVS ?
**I could not** find a step by step quick start to set up
the Win CVS **preferences**

any help would be most appreciated
Sorry if these questions were repeated earlier

TIA

RE: [OT ?] *WIN*CVS setup questions

2004-08-18 Thread Arthur Barrett
Hi there too!

CVSNT is the default CVS that comes with WinCVS.

You can download the latest installer from:
http://www.cvsnt.com/

Automatically updating a sandpit is probably best done with the command line. eg:
from the directory where you have checked out your project:

cvs update

That's all there is to it. If you are running windows you can automate this with the
standard at command, on unix you can use cron.

If you want to use cvs to download the cvsnt sources you would use:
cvs -d :sserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/local/cvs login
cvs -d :sserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/local/cvs co -r CVSNT_2_0_x cvsnt
..or
cvs -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/local/cvs login
cvs -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/local/cvs co -r CVSNT_2_0_x cvsnt

So the CVSROOT is :sserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/local/cvs

Regards,

Arthur Barrett

Hi

Thanks for the V quick reply. Really amazing speed from you.

So the CVSROOT is :sserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/local/cvs

That solves the CVS root problem

Next

In a command
cvs -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/freedos login
and
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/freedos co
modulename

:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/freedos
should be the CVS root

What are the following in the above :
